You need to add RAM(memory) to your pc. Search RAM on the Internet or go to your local electronics store. You'll need the model numbers of your pc, some websites will even scan your pc and tell you what memory you have installed and what type it is.

Use fewer applications at a time, remove any unnecessary startup programs, stop an non-essential services. All of these can help, but if low memory is the problem, add more RAM. BTW, defragging a drive normally will not provide any kind of significant performance boost unless you are constantly using a lot of severely fragmented files.

If by low memory you are actually referring low disk space, that is an entirely different beast. In that case you can delete unnecessary files and uninstall programs you don't use or you can add another hard drive to the system. The drive can be internal (if you have space and connectors in the case for it) or external; connected by USB, FireWire, or eSATA (whichever your system supports).

Low memory problems

Low memory problems could be low virtual (hard disk) memory.
Hard disk maintenance will free up hard disk memory space.
Hard disk maintenance should be carried once a month to make your computer run efficiently. This removes redundant and temporary files, recovers disk space and speed up hard disk access. Disk Cleanup should be done first - Click My Computer - then right click on the C drive then click Properties, then click Disk Cleanup - let it examine the C drive then it will calculate the amount of disk space it will recover, tick all the boxes to recover the maximum disk space and then Click OK and then Yes to perform these actions. If you have a D drive then repeat these steps on this drive too. Next the C drive needs to be Defrag. This process converts fragmented files into continuous files and this speeds up disk access and makes the hard disk not work as hard. Click on Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Defragmenter - click to highlight the C drive and click Analyse - then click Defragment. When this is completed repeat these steps for the D Drive if you have a D drive. Disk Cleanup and Defrag can take a long time to complete, especially if these tasks have not been for a long time.

Compaq Deskpro ENS P866 512 RAM 36GB HDD - Issues with Streaming.

LOL 512MB is mighty low for streaming movies. And a 36GB Hard Drive is low too. Have you checked to see how much space you have left on the hard drive? Click Start/My Computer and then Right Click on the Local Disk C Drive and select Properties. It will show you a Pie Chart of how much space you've used and how much is free. I bet your disk space is pretty low.

The hard drive files are not recognisable and threre are no file in my documents or my Local disk drive and my memory is full how do i fix this.

Ok I assume you get a virtual memory is low balloon at the bottom of the screen? If so then this is due to insufficient RAM to run the amount of programs or resource hogging programs like the newer internet explorer can be. If not and you have a low disc space balloon next to the clock then what you can do is first do a disc clean up which is found in start all programs accessories system tools disc cleanup. It make take a long time if your hard drive is filled with a bunch of temp files as well as old files and Once it is up check everything and let it clean up all of the un-necessary things. This will take awhile as well. Once it is complete I would suggest you do a disk defragment as after deleting a lot of files it can cause things to get fragmented and slow your computer down. this can be done by going to start all programs accessories system tools and disk defragment. You can analyse the disk if you want to see how fragmented it is before defraging as it will tell you if it really needs to be defraged or not. And that is about it. If you need further assistance just comment to say if this helps.

The media player scrolls songs too slowly. How can I get it to scroll faster?

Clean up your pc. run "disk clean up" and then "disk defrag" and go to windows update and install the latest for your operating system. This will correct the speed unless you many MANY songs that your trying to store and your memory available is low.

Have you tried Cleaning out old files, Defragment your Hard Drive

got to:
Start>Computer
RIGHT Click on your C:

Your C: Properties should show up.

Press the Disk Cleanup button.

This next screen will show up displaying the Cleanup progress.

greed03_7.png
After that is finished, you will get this screen showing files that can be deleted.

greed03_8.png
Check the boxes that you want to remove the files from and click OK.

Now that is one way to free up some space.

Now on to Defragging your Hard Drive.

go to:
Start>Computer
RIGHT Click on your C:

Your C: Properties should show up.

greed03_6.png
Click the "Tools" tab and you will see this.

greed03_9.png
Click the "Defragment Now.." button, follow the instructions and let it run.

Depending on how bad your files are fragmented, it could take 10mins to a couple, maybe even several hours.

Hope this helps:) Don't forget to rate.

Takes very long time to login and to open home page

Could be dozens of causes, but mostly it's because Windows always gets slower as it ages. If a malware scan doesn't show anything, then you need to reinstall Windows.

Low disk space in Windows XP but I only had less program.

Is your computer's "automatic updates" on? With all the available updates the window's size come upto 12Gb. And if you haven't changed the Windows Page file area it would use your C:/  by default. Try changing the page file area. Go to Properties in My computer>Advanced TAB>Performance "click on settings">Advanced>Under "virtual memory" click change. And change the location of virtual memory to some other drive. And also do not forget to select "no paging file" for Drive which is low in memory. Try this it might work. And yes, as asked by Bonji5555, run file clean up once in a while. and defragment your disks. There are many free disk defragmentors available over the net, google and find one for yourself. Windows have a built in defragmenter but its really slow.
Good luck!

Low disk space

sounds like the additional memory is not recognized, but the low disk space refers to your hard drive. Either delete some files and defrag or upgrade your hard drive.
