Question about Goldstar GR131CN Compact Refrigerator

1 Answer

Last night my wife left the freezer door open. When she came down this morning to the kitchen she noticed it and now the motor in the back is making a loud noise. Is it possible we have burned the motor, and also is it possible it can fix it self?

The fan motor is probably laden with frost and ice. If you can remove the food and then get a hair dryer you can warm up the area in the rear of the freezer. This should remove the ice and frost, let it rest for a whilke and then plug it back in.

turn off freezer and remove freezer panel at bottom in back. if evap.coil full of ice then defrost all ice. if no ice build-up then compressor may need new relay.

Last night, the freezer door on my older GE Profile fridge got left slightly open. This morning, it was making a loud noise and some of the food inside was starting to thaw. I turned it off for awhile...

The door being left open would have caused frost to form around the evaporator fan motor and that would be the source of your noise.

If the lights are still working then it is probable in defrost, wait about 30-45 min and see if it turns back on. If not then you might have a different problem.

What is the model number for your fridge? The model number is normally in the fridge on the right hand side.

Left the freezer door open all night and morning noticed it in the afternoon. Thawed it and now the freezer works fine but the fridge doesn't cool

these fridge freezers have a damper flap which means your fridge will not cool until everything in the freezer is frozen hard again this may take up to two days depending how much you have in your freezer

If your fridge is left open over night and it wasnt closed till morning and the alarm light does stop flashing when it is closed what does that mean?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

FYI... The door alarm will sound anytime the door is left open for more than 4 minutes.

Per your post... What it means your refrigerator is working normally.

However... there is the possibility of having excess ice build up on the evaporator coils from the door being open all night. If the freezer section starts warming up due to poor airflow you may have to do a manual defrost. You would first notice the lack of ice production or soft ice cream if there were air flow problems due to excess ice on the evaporator coils.

To do a manual defrost all you do is:
1. Unplug the unit
2. Remove freezer contents
3. Use a fan directed at the freezer compartment for just over 2 hours (makes a water mess)
4. Reload the freezer
5. Plug in the refrigerator

Everything should be back to normal in just over 4 hours except ice production that can take up to 8 hours.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

We left the freezer door open all night by accident two days ago

I turned the fridge side off on mine, and left it overnight (last night!). This morning there is frozen stuff in the freezer. I think the compressor motor just needed ALOT of time to cool down b4 it would work properly again

Amana Range ARG7300W -- igniter problem back??

I am sure you noticed where it is located. A gas oven cycles the same as an electric. depending on the number of times the door is opened and the length of time you operator the oven. Our furnace was acting up one night last winter and I turned the oven on warm with the door cracked open until I could get the part for the furnace in the morning and our igniter went out on the oven. Also try not to touch the element on the igniter when you install the new one.
