On Miele W770 (1986) washer, the open door button, when pushed, slightly depresses the start button and will not open the door. I adjusted the large Allen wrench screws inside door to no avail. Have to open it with the pull ring at bottom inside removeable grill. Have remounted the latch inside the door and know how to remove the ring gasket if necessary. It seems to be an electrical relay problem. Any ideas? email@example.com All in all, a GREAT machine - 23 years of many loads a day......

manufacturer & model number? seems like the door switch (push button) if there is, is not totally depressed when door is closed. if the door hinge mounting screws are accessible you might be able to realign the door. loosen the screws, temporarily put a spacer to help line up (aligned) before tightening screws. (or tape a thin spacer on door to totally depress the switch)
Question is somewhat ambiguous, since in normal operation the door "unlocks" when the cycle is finished and the orange DOOR button is depressed. To manually open the door mid-cycle or with no power, find the yellow plastic tool attached to the soap tray and use it (or something similar) to pry open the front access panel at bottom left. There will be a plastic ring projecting downward into the cavity behind this panel: pull it sharply downward and the door should open.
Make sure the door is properly closed!!! The door opener is electric, and the electrics are turned off unless the door is properly closed, hence with the door closed but not fully "home" you will neither be able to re-open the door nor wash what is in the machine. Just give the door a firm push closed and it should spring to life.
The most common cause for this problem, is the Electro Magnetic Door lock, itself. The part may cost about $170, new. However, you can open the door manually, from the bottom side of the washer. Other causes may be a defective "push button switch," or drainage problem. In a drainage problem, water sitting inside washer, won't allow the user to open washer door, until the water is manually drained out. Good Luck.
I had the same problem and some time later it stopped completely. The probmlem is in the Prorammer.
UNfortunately it is very hard to find because the appliance is very old. If you find one, I can tell you in detail what is the sequence to change it.
Hi, I have the same machine and the door won't open using the button. Speaking with technicians gave me a very expensive fix. However, there is an easier solution: If the bottom panel is removed, just underneath the door there is a protruding section with a "T" slot in it. Inside that is a ring. If that is pulled down it will open the door. I've been using a screwdriver for almost 2 years now. Good luck, Andy (Portsmouth, NH)
open the top access panel, 3 screws in top rear. start washer push up gently on one of the center black wired connectors that connect to the control unit (in back top of washer) if it starts to work then the relays on the control circuit board need to be re-soldered . a normal reoccurring issue its rarely the latch
