Question about JVC Car Audio & Video
Hi, I was trying to install an amp in my 2003 Diamante LE. Having trouble trying to run the power cable from the engine bay through to the inside of the car.
Can anyone please help?
Any help appreciated.
The best possible solution is to find an existing grommet in the firewall to run your wire through. While I cannot be specific about the 2003 Diamante, I've found that you can nearly always locate a firewall grommet. I'm attaching a photo of a power wire going through a firewall grommet. Notice that it has been sealed with silicone sealant.
If there is no grommet in the firewall, you still have a couple of options:
Option 1 is to drill through the firewall, which can be done from either the interior side, or engine side . Be mindful of the brake booster and hoses/wiring on the firewall. You can use a cut piece of PCV pipe or a PVC coupler for a bushing, just measure the OD of the PVC and drill accordingly (just SLIGHTLY oversize - you may need to use a hole saw). Then epoxy the bushing in place. Once the epoxy is dry you have a smooth pathway through the firewall which won't cut the jacket of the wire. Pull the cable and fill the area surrounding it (where it goes throught the PVC) with silicone sealant. If you are running the cables on the driver side, Be careful how you route the wires so that they do not interfere with pedal operation - take this into account when deciding where to drill your hole(s).
Option 2 is to run the cables externally, underneath the car. If you go this route, PVC tubing bolted through the floorboard can be used as conduit (Obviously, you would need to remove the seat and carpet in order to do so). Then you can use the same epoxy bushing procedure listed above to get the wire back inside the car.
Hope this helps.
