Question about Sony Vaio PCG-FXA Series AMD (A8058677A) Motherboard

1 Answer

Have a Sony Vaio PCG-FXA49 that has no audio. I get intermittent sound which is very low volume. How can I remedy this issue?

Thanks for the post glosol, unfortunately I have already been through the software issue and there seems to be none. Trouble is this laptop as far as I am aware has no separate sound card as it is built into the motherboard, there is however a ribbon cable which I suspect could be the issue as the sound will appear now and again but is very garbled. Thanks

A few software based spots you should check out might be your best bet. The double- and sometimes triple- locations for your volume control. If you have a media player running, it might not fully control system sound properties. Check thru control panel and then sound devices to ensure all sound locations are good.

But your real problem I suspect is hardware based. (have to rule out the easy steps first!) My laptop had the same issue, which turned out to be the actual sound card. if your sound changes when you move the output jack or when headphones are plugged in, does it change sound level or speaker output at all?

Corrosion, a cracked sound board, or bad solder connection could all point at being a bad card.

To be honest with you, I have never opened up a sony vaio so there is no way for me to be certain if you are able to remove it or not. On my Pavilion DV5224nr, the headphone jack failed and caused the sound card to fail. I was able to find it on ebay, and replaced it easily. Good Luck!

    EDIT:

Just searched ebay and didnt see a seperate sound card listed, so it very well could be integrated.

No audio device on notebook

Cable3,

Sounds like you indeed have a problem with an audio hardware driver. Presumably the 'Audio Device on High Definition Bus' is the system detecting a device it doesn't have a driver installed for.

First question - was the sound working previously? If so, did you recently install any type of audio software not related to the sound device itself?

Please provide the exact model number of the VAIO notebook and we can point you to the correct driver and try that for starters.
