Yes. Checking the belt would be a good place to start.  Turn the machine over and remove the soleplate - there are three screws designed to be turned just one quarter turn each using a coin.  With the soleplate removed you will see the belt or, more likely, where the belt should be if the old one's broken.  Get a new belt and pop it on, and you'll be back in business.
This is almost certainly the problem, as there's not much else to go wrong down there, but if this doesn't help post another message and we'll try again.  Good luck.

Hello, I have Dyson DC33. The brush bar isn't turning & the belt is on & intact. Any suggestions?

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

There are a number of reasons why your brush roller has stopped moving. General maintenance to your vacuum is crucial and will help it work at peak performance.

First things first lets focus on the brush roller. Unplug the vacuum and turn it on its side. Look for any noticeable clumps of debris or hair strands that may be caught in the brush roller. Remove these obstructions, probably best to do so with a scissor if it's hair or long pieces of carpet fibers. After removing the debris try manually rotating the brush roller to uncover other hidden clogs. Another thing to take note of is the condition of the bristles on the roll itself. Are they loose or worn down? These are signs that your brush roller is in need of replacing.

While checking out your brush roll you might as well take a look at your vacuums belt. Your belt should be replaced about every three months. After regular usage, the belt will stretch out, lessening the tension on the brush roller. Lesser tension diminishes the brush roller's turn rate and speed. If the belt feels loose then it certainly is affecting your vacuums suction as well as your brush roll not moving at all.

A throw rug got caught in the rolling pin of vaccuum. Rolling pin no longer works.

Hello. more likely than not, the small belt that drives the roller has either dislodged or broken. Unless you have a dyson, you can replace that belt for about 5 dollars. The dyson, however has encased the belt in a plastic assembly and the entire assembly must be replaced for about 80 dollars. J.

My Dyson is getting the suction power but the black roller is not turning? Any suggestions, please?

Which Dyson model do you have? Some have a reset button for your roller. If that is the case try hitting that button and see what it does.
