MS Outlook Email will not print

Hi Guys,

I have the following config:
Brother HL-2040 USB Cable Printer
Toshiba Satellite P200
Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit
MS Office Professional Small Business 2007

A while ago, my system crashed and foolishly I transmitted an outgoing email whilst running one of my Registry Repair Applications.

Outcome is as follows: -

I can print direct to the printer/PDF writer from either MS Word or MS Excel; but I cannot print direct to the printer or PDF writer from MS Outlook.

When I attempt to print direct to the printer from MS Outlook the printer fires up and the red light flashes. Nothing prints; and when I attempt to print direct to the PDF writer software from MS Outlook the screens frosts up and MS Outlook ''hangs''.

I have reinstalled: -
MS Office Professional Small Business including MS Outlook;
PDF writer driver; and
Brother HL-2040 Printer Driver;

I have: -
Checked Printer Set-Up on MS Outlook - A4; and
Executed Registry Repair on at least 4 different Registry Repair Applications; and
Did System Restore.

But still can't find the problem. Any ideas? Will I have to re-install Windows Vista Ultimate?

    Hello taran_2005

Problem solved ... I had to re-install Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Printer was also set for manual feeding of paper.

Hi david814,
Before we jump to the conlclusion that whether we need to reinstall windows vista ultimate or not, we need to check some details...
You are trying to print emails - the HTML one or simple text?
Is that an issue with both kind of formats?
Have you tried to print something directly from IE?
Make sure that outlloo express must be updated .....

Are you getting a runtime error or script error?
Use common fix like
Start -> Run -> Type "regsvr32 ole32.dll" (without quotes) in the box and click OK.

Than try to print....
If problem still remain, let me know and do answer all my questions...
Thanks for using Fixya.

My Brother hl-2040 is just running paper through, even after power cycles, and won't stop. How can I purge its memory to be able to start printing an acutal document again?

disconect the usb from the printer, then power cycle.
cancel all jobs on the computer. reconnect the usb, if you send a job and the problem starts again i'd try a new cable

Are brother hl 2040 printers compatible with windows 7 - 32bit operating system

I find that windows 7 prefers to download it's own drivers.

If you installed any drivers, uninstall them, unplug the USB of the printer and reboot.
When you get back into windows plug back in the USB cable to your printer
You will see "found new hardware" This time you want to let Windows to go online and download the drivers for you.

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.
Thank you

Have installed driver for hl-2040, When i go to print it goes offline and says it cant conmuacate with the printer . Says its off when it is on.

the printer is offline means pc is not able to make any communication with the printer is the port configured;don't worry port will always be configured automatically;plz check the printer USB cable and you will only be able to print when the printer is online in printers control panel;check the power cable;try changing the usb port on your pc too. check your printer is detected in another pc too

HL-2040 printer won't function

You can't hook up two HL 2040 with 1PC. It will make your PC crazy and don't know which printer should go for printer.
You must remove 1 HL2040. After that you should be fine.

Lost software installation

Assuming the printer model is Brother HL-2040 then drivers for Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003 should be available from Brother's website here. That link was not working for me at the moment, if it is still down you can get the drivers from the alternative link of the opendrivers site here.

you could try this: unistall the HP printer driver first, uninstall the brother driver , restart pc, load brother driver with the usb cable unplugged from printer. Software will prompt for the cable to be connected to printer
