Re: drill chuck locked up

Your problem is with the screw holding the chuck onto the shaft. That screw if a reverse thread and needs to be tightened in reverse direction.

Chuck broke on my hole hog how i fix it

The back needs to come off, you need to remove the spindle, press it off the gear, replace it by pressing the gear back on and reassembling. You will need to have your serial number then go to and look up the parts diagram. It looks like the part number is 38-50-5076 which also comes with a new chuck. I just looked at the kit as I actually have one in stock.

How do you get the chuck off a dewalt 18v dcd970?

The chuck on your drill was made to be taken off with a special jig and holder that cost $175+. Depending on how tight and how much lok-tite the factory used some chucks can be removed without the jig. You need a hex shaft at least four inches long and 3/8" to 1/2" wide. Lock the hex-shaft tightly in the chuck, then put the shaft in a vice with the drill straight up and down. Using very firm and steady pressure, turn the drill using the handle for leverage until the chuck breaks free. Don't bounce the pressure or use an impact wrench as this is very ******* the transmission. When you put the new chuck on, use a few drops of lok-tite and put it on as tight as you can without breaking the case. Let the lok-tite set up for at least one day.

Hi i broke the chuck on my 1/2 makita cordless

Put the biggest hex key you have in the chuck and tighten it then hit it clockwise with the spindle lock engaged a couple of times. The screw in the chuck will then undo clockwise and the chuck can be undone after by putting the allen key back in and unscrewing it anti-clockwise maybe with a light tap from a mallet.
Hope this helps

My client has a drill press BDDP100 Type 1 - broken chuck

McMaster- Carr ships every where.

There is probably a Grainger location in south Florida, they would ship any where you want.

There are a few different tapers used on drill chucks but they are pretty standardized: you don't need the black and decker part, you just need a standard chuck of the correct taper. try to get a basic Jacobs chuck they will last much longer than the one it came with.

The chuck froze. The drill was used one time and stored in the shop. Unusually damp air caused the chuck to freeze up. I broke it trying to free it up. I need to buy a new chuck. Where can I buy parts.

chucks are interchangeable through the center of the chuck is a screw usually reverse threaded remove it and bring it to your local hardware store they should be able to get you one,if they don't carry it already. i have purchased some through True Value hardware stores.

My chuck is broke , on my 18v makita cordless drill , how do i fix it

Put the chuck key on and strike it with a hammer counter clockwise. the chuck key must be properly seated in the hole. Once the chuck is brokrn free, you can unscrew it my hand. Buy a new chuck an screw it in olace and againm strike the key but no as hard clockwise. It will self tighten more as it is used, Good Luck-Ned-

Chuck Replacement

Hello Mike-To remove the old chuck, you'
ll need to open the jaws all the way and l;ook inside the chuck for a screw that holds the chuck onto the motor shaft. That screw has a reverse thread which means that you'll need to hold the chuck tight while using a screwdriver to turn the screw in the forward direction. After the screw is removed, p[lace a large allen wrench into the chuck and tighten it. Then using a hammer handle, rap the allen wrench in the reverse direction for removal. Then call Alltrade Tools @ 1-800-423-3598, give them your model number so they can provide you with a replacement chuck.
