the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).

CHANGE the REGION on my SONY DVD BDP-S185

From the users manual:

Region code (BD-ROM/DVD VIDEO only)
Your player has a region code printed on the
rear of the unit and will only play BD-ROMs/
DVD VIDEOs labeled with identical region
codes.

Nothing was said in the manual about changing the region code.

I have the 5083 dvd player, but it only seems to play region 2 dvds. I've tried going through the menus, but it asks for a country code. The codes are two letters A-Z. I'm assuming that there's...

The Country Code is just related to the Subtitles etc and nothing to do with the Region.
Most DVD Players/Recorders are set to Play the Region of DVD from the Country they were purchased from. Only some are Region Free (will play DVDs from any Country) when purchased.

Some DVD Players/Recorders can be changed to Region Free by simply entering a code on the Remotes handset or by following instructions to enter a Service Menu and change it their.

Unfortunately yours can only be changed by updating the Firwmare which is a risky and difficult process even if you know what you're doing. I wouldn't advise anyone to try it without previous experience as you could render your DVD Player/Recorder useless.

Im wondering if anyone know how to turn off the region zone for a Sony DVP-FX750. It was purchased in america with a zone 1 & we have zone 4 in Australia. I've tried to burn a DVD to play, but...

This question is one of my most frequent on FixYa.

There is no "region-free" or "region 0" setting for any DVD player/recorder. Only DVD media can be region free. Every single offer to set a player or recorder to region free that I am familiar with has been a scam. The reason for this is to prevent DVD piracy.

Most DVD players and recorders (SONY included) have provisions for making a maximum of THREE changes to their region code. A fourth attempt at changing the region code will result in the player/recorder being turned into a paperweight.

Bkhopkins- in your case, you will be able to change your region code from region 1 (USA) to region 4 (AUS). Doing so will leave your player with 2 more changes, maximum. Check your manual for the procedure and the exact number of changes you are allowed. Please be aware that after you change to Region 4, any Region 1 DVD's will not be viewable unless you switch back, which will use another of your three changes.

You have an alternative to salvage your DVD's by downloading a program called DVD Shrink. This program is capable of removing the region code from your DVDs and saving them as region-free at the sacrifice of some quality. You will at least the be able to view your US DVD's without sacrificing a region code change on your player.

Good Luck, and Thank You for using FixYa!

Could you please tell me how to rezone my Toshiba dvr 16sb for all areas as I recieved an American movie from my daughter for my birthday and cannot play it on my video recorder. Many thanks.

First, since you are using a Recorder not just a player, the consequences of changing the region are many. Anything recorded will now be coded for the new region and will only play on that devices coded for that region. So....I would A. Play the DVD on your computer which is easily manipulated for region code changes.( http://www.videohelp.com/play)
Or B) Change the code on a player only.
OR C) The third option is to rip the DVD via computer freeware such as DVDshrink and designate the region you desire when doing so. You can then easily burn the DVD copy with the "correct" region.
Hope this helps.

SAMSUNG HR733 DVD RECORDER WILL NOT PLAY ANY REGION DISCS AT ALL

On page 45 of the user manual it says this:

Both the HDD & DVD RECORDER and the discs are coded
by region. These regional codes must match in order for the
disc to play. If the codes do not match, the disc will not play.
The Region Number for this HDD & DVD RECORDER is
described on the rear panel of the HDD & DVD RECORDER

If you changed the region codes on your player it will not work. They should be set back to 1 or whatever your model says on the back of the unit.

If this unit was purchased outside the United States, it may not work in the United States.

Here is a copy of the manual if you need it:
