First try blowing it out the unit with compressed air to see if there is large amounts of accumulated dirt inside, look for black soot on the center of the air outlet side.
Intermittent problems are the hardest to troubleshoot.

test your batteries if they are still in good condition i.e reading the exact voltage it written on it if it has dropped by 2 volts it needs replacement

Did you find a fault or get it repaired as I have a very similar fault with a Statpower (Xantrex) Prosine 24v 1800i 230v inverter the only difference is that mine faults out with no load on it
