Open up the PC to see if there is a hard drive in the PC. If there is, then it has just been wiped and you'll need to reinstall your OS.

I tried to reinstall it but is not even reading de cd-rom, any ideas?

It is possible that your CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive is faulty. Perhaps your installation media is faulty. Try another disk. Also check the cabling for the CD drive. See if your system BIOS recognizes it at startup.

You need to use a program called "check disk" which is part of every windows operating system.

For windows 8 follow the process in the this web page to do a check disk on C: drive.

How to installing the windows 7 in optiplex 745

Installing windows 7 isn't difficult. First, you need the disk to install it from. If you don't have that, Microsoft no longer sells this version, so it will be harder.
If you want to keep your programs and data, there is a package, "PC Mover" that you can buy that will help you preserve all your data and programs. I've used this many times to help upgrade systems like yours.

Format using USB device

It's difficult to give an accurate answer with so little info.
I'll assume you have purchased a CD with Win7 on and wish to install Win7 from that to your PC.
If so, you should put the disk into the CD drive and re-boot.
If your PC is configured to boot from CD before Hard drive it should work with no mention of USB.
Otherwise supply a full description of what you're doing.

Dell Optiplex 745 having all kinds of problems getting blue screens, but I can reboot and it works fine. I installed a new hard drive on this computer. I am not able to install the update for windows xp...

Hello,

The main failure on the Optiplex 745 units are capacitors on the motherboard. When they fail you can get all sorts of strange problems - no boot, blue screen issues, no video or distorted video. Open your machine up and look for bulging capacitors on the board. Here is a link to a guide showing what to look for on the motherboard to determine if your problem is capacitor related or not.

If you do find bulging capacitors on the motherboard then more than likely that will be your problem. You can replace the capacitors and your board will be as good as new.

I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

I just purchased a Hp notebook dv2214us from an auction but everything was wiped clean off the hard drive due to California Law. I completed a self test off the Bios and everything passed. I just recently...

did you go into the bios and change the boot order to boot to the cd rom first? Then it should boot to the disc. Otherwise you may want to use any xp/vista disc do the install dont insert a cd key then once windows boots up then put the disc in and try a recovery.
Thanks,
Lee

I need to format my pc at work it is a Dell Optiplex 360

1- you do know that doing this will wipe out your entire hard drive, right?
2- just put your install cd rom into the drive boot up the computer, your computer should see a bootable cd rom, if it does this, boot the disk and follow the on screen prompts, step 4 in the setup prgram will ask you which partition you wish to install to, at this point you have the option to wipe out the partition and start again from a fresh install.

My Dell Optiplex 745 "No Boot Device Available"

No boot device means that the computer cannot find a drive that has a operating system files and therefore cannot boot up.
This usually means that the hard drive in the computer is faulty.
You need to get a new hard drive and install Windows on the hard drive, together with the drivers for the computer's installed devices and programs to get a working computer.

Hard drive problems with Optiplex GX260

You should be able to manually enter the drive perameters into bios. That should let you boot. Or boot it up with a boot disk.
