Dvd player doesn't recognize dvd's of any kind

While showing "reading disc" on the television screen, the player will stop loading the disc and give an "incorrect disc" display on the tv and display "err" on the display of the dvd player.

Re: dvd player doesn't recognize dvd's of any kind

Jusguessin should call Toshiba quickly. The units have a 1 year warranty. Do not open the unit or it will void your warranty (I know, I do Toshiba warranty repairs on their recorders. If anything will make be void a warranty, it's a consumer who opens the unit and pokes around inside).

mooch, clean the laser head. I wish I could refer you to a FAQ because this is about the 10th time today I have written this.

Open the unit. Remove the DVD drive. Take the top off of the DVD drive. Clean the lense with a q-tip with a little windex on it. Work the head up and down gently. Reassemble and test. If problem presists, go buy a new one.

The lense of the player may have gone week, since you have been using it for a long time. Replacing lense will be a solution to this.

Disk not recognized...loads, but doesn't succeed in playing disk, displaying "no disc" and stops disc spinning. What do I need to do to get the Mintek DVA 8700 to recognize discs. I've opened it to see if...

I had this same problem with my Apex AD-500W DVD Player. I decided since everyone said the player basically needed to be replaced it wouldn't hurt to go through the buttons on the remote just to try and figure it out......I DID!!!! I turned on my DVD Player, inserted a disc, turned on my tv and then hit the SYSTEM Button right below the power button until the screen said MULTI and the machine started working perfectly. There are 3 settings in that button, PAL which made my screen go crazy, NTSC ( i have no clue) and MULTI(this one made it work)! Hope it also works for all of you!!!

DVD stopped playing all DVDs

Reset you player by doing the following:
With the player on, hooked properly to your television, and on the correct station:
Open the tray
Close the tray (with no DVD inserted)
Hold the stop button down for a full 5 seconds
The CyberHome screen should appear. You should be able to play your dvd's now.

DVD appears to not be reading or recognizing discs

Unfortunately your DVD drive mechanism looks to have bit the big one.

You can try taking it apart, removing the top of the drive and cleaning the lense. Work it up and down. Use a q-tip with a little squirt of windex on it.

Reassemble and try it again. If you get the same results, it's time for a new DVD player.
