Question about Amana ARS2464B Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

My 5 year old bottom freezer Amana doesn't cool and makes the "click" hum "click sound. Is the start relay bad or the compressor and how can I tell without wasting money on a 3 in 1 kit that may or may not help?

I have been doing refrigeration for over 30 years and I have never seen a compressor with a chip inside of it. Have you tried cleaning the condensor coils? I almost sounds like you have a weak start capacitor. Let me know if i can help you any futher.

If the compressor is overheating I would check the condensor fan and make sure it's turning. Sounds like you wouldn't have noticed this already though. Also, if the compressor is turning on for 5 or 10 seconds and then clicking off then your start relay is probably bad. Pull the relay off the compressor and shake it. If something is loose inside then it's bad. That is, if it's a whirlpool made kenmore. Kenmore doesn't make appliances they only brand them. The refrigerator could have been made by Whirlpool, Frigidaire, GE, LG, Maytag, Amana, or other. So, it's depenant on who made it.

GE bottom freezer began making a clicking noise, will not run

The clicking could be the start relay. If the start relay is bad, the compressor will not start and you will hear a clicking noise in 2-5 minute intervals. The clicking noise is the overload cutting the compressor off when it overheats from trying to start with a bad start relay. To find out if this is bad first unplug the refrigerator. Remove the lower cover from your refrigerator. Then take the cover off that is on the side of the compressor, you will see wires going to this. Now you should be able to see the start relay plugged on to the side of the compressor and unplug it. Now the best way to tell if it’s bad is to shake it. If it rattles, it’s bad and needs to be replaced. If not, most of the time it’s ok. But rather than saying the compressors bad, you might want to replace it anyways because it don’t cost much in most cases (less than $25). If you replace it and it doesn’t work then the compressor is bad and you’ll need you call a repairman. (Note that compressors are very costly and are normally not worth fixing). Bad capacitor/relay or compressor?

that is most likely a relay. Does the unit get cold while running?

Amana ABC2037DEB after 4 years, now freezer click and hum melting

that click followed by a hum can only be one thing
pull the unit out and feel the compressor, if its really hot you have a relay and overload issue, and it struggles to start.
with any luck, it is the external relay and overload found mounted to the comresssor should be a lil white block
if not it will be two differant parts
a lil white one and a brown one
let these cool a bit and check both for continutity
ive included a link for the parts
they are 10 and 11 on the schematic

. Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay.

Buzzing intermittent

It sounds like the ice maker. If you don't have the water hooked up, and the ice sensor bar is in the down position, the ice maker assembly will attempt to make ice continuously.
Solution is easy: raise the ice sensor bar until it clicks in the up position. It will lock in this position, and the ice maker will not cycle anymore.

Amana refrigerator

Sounds like it has either a bad compressor relay or if the brand name of the compressor is Tecumseh, it will need to be retrofit to a more reliable longer lasting Embraco compressor.

most likely the compressor relay is the clicking noise but i think the problem is most likely the compressor is starting to go bad and is lcoking up. if the refig is under 5 yrs old it is most likely still in warranty by amana
