Question about Apple iPhone 3G
Step 1. Turn off your iPhone.
Step 2. Hold down the power and home button.
Step 3. When you see the Apple logo, release the power button but continue holding the home button down.
Step 4. Open iTunes and wait for it to tell you that its in restore mode.u try this

Turn iphone off. Power on holding power and home at same time for 10 seconds, then release power button but hold home for another 30 seconds. Screen will stay blank but should be in DFU recovery mode. Plug into iTunes and recover.

Then your firmware is not loading correctly. Try doing a reset, power plus home button, if that does not work connect your iphone to itunes and restore to default settings and try again. The firmware probably needs to be restored through itunes
