Question about Tatung L17AMTN 17" Flat Panel LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Monitor L17AMTN flashes WinXP desktop, then blanks.

Testing this monitor with bench 12V PS. Center pin positive? Power light shows yellow light. Power light flashes green, monitor shows desktop for 1/2 second, then blanks out. Repeats over and over.

Does anyone have schematic?

Anyone have a clue about this?

As I had said, I was using my bench supply because the "lay on floor black box switch-mode-power-supply" had been lost. Based upon your statement about power supplies, I cranked up the PS voltage from 13.0 to ~16. I had set it as low as possible, because the monitor stated 12V 3.3A and I thought it needed exactly 12V. Once I cranked it up to 16, it came on continuously and worked well. Then I turned it back to 13 and it started flashing on and off. So I think we got it! Thanks, much!.

Dmellman, Before you open it up, try this! With fully booted pc and WIN DESKTOP screen up, reconnect the L17AMTN . Have a bright flashlight handy so that when the lcd screen flashes on for 1 second and then goes dark, you will want to check to see if the desktop remains on the screen even though you think it went away. Shine the light 1-2 inches from screen at different angles. Has the desk top completely disappeared or is it still being displayed? Do you know about Cold-Cathode-Fluorescent tubes and their Inverter type power supply? I assume that this unit also has a "lay on floor black box switch-mode-power-supply" that is supposed to supply raw 12v-14v dc to the monitor? This symptom is typical of lcd monitor power supply failure, and or inverter board failure. Not to mention the fact that the CCFT's could be a bit tired from use. YOUTUBE has some videos on taking apart lcd monitors. also do search on web for "bad caps on lcd boards" or "bad caps in lcd monitors". I should think that this Tatung might suffer from swollen cap-itis. get back to me with results of your investigation. Im louie12fix on fixya or just nrth of Windy City

dmellman, If voltage source can supply 3.5 to 5 amps I should think that the monitor should work just fine if set to 12.0 volts + or - 5% If not, I would suggest that something is very wrong here. I mean that if the lable on the monitor says 12 volts, that means it should work at 12.00v! If not, some component within the monitor has degraded and or changed value. BAD CAPS anyone? Well anyhow, have fun. bye for now. louie

My guess is you have already figured out the two cables attached to the 12v car plug each go to the DVD player and Monitor. The Monitor power input schematic shows the inside pin to be positive, leaving the sleeve to be negative. WebRepOverall ratingThis site has no rating(not enough votes)

My monitor screen is ok for awhile but suddenly turns a dull yellow color. I just bought it a few months ago.

you must adjust the display settings in the software program that was being used to change the display setting.
  • If you have a flat panel LCD monitor, unplug the monitor power cable, wait about 30 seconds, reconnect the cable and then turn on the monitor. This resets the electronics on the monitor.
  • Make sure the monitor has power - the light on the monitor is on. If the light on the monitor is off, the monitor does not have power. Connect it to a different power outlet.
  • If the monitor has a detachable video cable, obtain a second monitor cable for testing purposes in case the cable is bad.
  • follw the another steps-
  • Replace the monitor power cable.
    1. Turn on the monitor. If the monitor displays an image, you are done. If the monitor remains blank, continue using these steps.
    2. Replace the video cable. Turn on the monitor. If the monitor displays an image, you are done. If the monitor remains blank, continue using these steps.
    3. If the monitor does not work after replacing the cables, replace or service the monitor

I need to know if the center pin is positive or negative on the power plug on the back of the pavilion f1503 LCD monitor.

I assume that you need a new power supply (PS). The old power supply should have an indicator on it depicting the pin-out. If it doesn't, you can break open the old PS and look for the capacitor. One end will be market +++ and the other pin will be marked ---. Trace the wire of use a conductivity meter to determine which wire is + and which is -.

Most of the time (but not always), the center is + and the outside is -.

Green light comes on,no sound, have checked speaker connections, monitor shows no VGA connection ,fans run etc.have stripped out boards and checked all power supply and other cables.

Your comment that you have no sound and the monitor is showing no VGA connection, then you have a gross leakage in your PS. I suggest that you copy the voltages and colors that are on the PS and then measure each voltage (remember that red=5V and yellow=12V and so on. I am fairly sure that you have a PS problem or an overload causing it to shut down. Thank you very much. CONSTANTIN (arzconst)

Tatung monitor Power light shows yellow light.

It sounds like your resolution or refresh rate is out of reach for your screen.

Restart your computer (even if it will be manually unplugging the power cable)

If you have no display while your computer starts up; you might have a hardware failure. Swapping your screen out, or plugging it into another computer (that works) will confirm if this is the issue.

If you can see the computer starting up you can press F8 (on your keyboard) continuously just before Windows can start.

Select "Safe mode" so that you will have the basics of screen settings.

Now you can go to control panel, display and click on the Settings Tab at the top. Change your settings to a rather default "1024x768" resolution and change your referesh rate to nothing more than 75hz under the advanced icon.

    Hope this helps!?

The flash light test only works with lcd monitor as they have back lights. Double check the connections again, also, if you can borrow a monitor try it on your pc, it may be your graphics driver needs to be uninstalled and re-installed, but you will need a monitor to see.
