Question about Dell Ethernet Card Network Adapter

Questions about replacing ethernet card on my Dell desktop

Hi! I have an older Dell desktop (Dimension 8250) and the ethernet port has gone out. I thought it might be a driver problem but I reinstalled everything and it still does not work. Anyway, I guess that means I need to purchase a new ethernet card, but I want to make sure I purchase the right thing. The current card is an Integrated Intel Pro 10/100 Ethernet Network Card. The USB port still works fine, but as I am needing to hook up a router so I can use my laptop wirelessly, I have to do so through the ethernet port. Anyway, I have never purchased an ethernet card before. Would a generic ethernet card work from Best Buy or do I have to replace with the same kind and buy directly from Dell? I am looking for a cheap option here, so if you have any brand suggestions that will work, please let me know. Also, are they relatively easy to install?

Any ethernet card will work fine. Just be sure it's the fit's the correct slot. You probably have a "white" slot which is a pci slot. If it's a longer "black" slot then it's isa. More than likely it came from a pci slot. Before you buy one, confirm the type of slot. In additon, before installing it go to control panel and system settings, hardware, device manager and remove the old one by right clicking it and select delete or remove. Shut down the computer follow instructions for new card.
Probably will have to install the drivers first then shut down and install the new card. Good Luck.

Dell dimension 8400 blinking amber light ethernet port

An Amber blinking power button indicates a low voltage problem. This can be caused by a defective power supply or a defective motherboard. Since you replaced the power supply, my guess is that the motherboard has a problem.
Just to make sure that nothing else is causing the problem, remove any PCI cards like modem, video card, sound card, etc... Remove the memory modules and disconnect cables to CD/DVD drives. Look at the USB ports to see if any are damaged.

Hello i got integreted network card on me dell dimension 8250 i was trying to get drivers from dell site but me pc still doeasnt see me network card please help me as quick its possible

On a computer that DOES have Internet access,
access the manufacturer's web-site: http://support.dell.com
and select "Dimension" and "8250".
Select the device-driver for the NIC.
Download it.
Copy the download to a CD-recordable disk, or to a USB memory-stick.
Move the copy of the file to your Dell.
Run the software to install the device-driver for the NIC.

Once Windows is reinstalled on dell computers you have to use resource cd that came with it and reinstall network and sometimes couple other drivers like video or sound. If you dont have the resource cd you will have to get some how to dell.com maybe from your friends pc or if you have another one and just download it from there. Go to dell.com,click on support then on drivers and software and choose your system and you will find all drivers right there. Hope this helps.

Is the ethernet card on dimension 3000 dell alone or part of the motherboard

Hi,

Since around 1998 all motherboards come with the LAN (network/ethernet) on board.
The port will be at the back of the Dell next to the USB ports, you can't miss it.

Regards.

Need ethenet controller for dell dimension 8250 PLEASE ANYONE

lets try a few things

open up device manager, right click on the other device, click properties, open up the drivers page, update driver, search my computer automatically next next next, does it find the driver? if not then go back Select driver manually - advanced, do you still have the files you downloaded? direct the manual search into the download folder / where you have extracted the files, might install that way.

Let me know how that goes.
Thanks

No ethernet port on older Dell desktop

Yes, all you need is a PCI ethernet card. You can pick them up rather cheap. Here is one. You basically plug it into an available PCI port on the inside of your computer. If XP doesn't automatically install it, just insert the included CD with the drivers on it and XP will do the rest. And remember to please give this answer a good rating of fixya. Thanks.
