I adjusted the convergence and it works foir a couple minutes, then the picture starts to jump. Also the picture curves at the top and bottom of the set.

Towards the corners, the colours are out of sync, especially the red! Any ideas on how to fix or what causes this please?

The red color alignment shifted. Adjusting the eye fidelity doesn't adjust the cross hairs up to mtch

I am working on the same problem for my brother's set - all of your posts apply to his situation. Wavy at the bottom, the blue can be 'almost adjusted' but the red jumps around too much. We also noticed that you need to almost play a video game since one cross hair will affect another one next to it - seems to be sets of three horizontal - so fix #2, then #1, then back to #2, and finally #3. I'm researching how to best approach the situation and looking into whether or not the technicians require custom remote access or if they simply clean the components and reset the HDTV from within.

Tv out of foucs

These procedures are from the owners manual, go into menu and then picture quality and then: Convergence The Convergence feature lets you adjust the TV’s three tubes. When the TV tubes’ images are precisely aligned, they create the color images you see on the screen. Over time, the picture can drift out of alignment (this is normal). If your picture seems fuzzy or has a yellow tint, using Convergence could correct this misalignment. Only one convergence is needed for all inputs, regardless of the signal format. Note: Make sure the TV has been on for at least 30 minutes (TV needs to warm up for best results) before starting Auto Converge or Red/Blue Centering. When you select the Convergence feature, a submenu appears with three options: Auto Converge Automatically aligns the projection lenses to self-correct color images. You’ll see flashing squares of color dance across the screen (this is normal). Note: After performing auto convergence, use the Blue Centering and Red Centering menus to fine tune convergence in the center of the screen, if necessary. Blue Centering Aligns the blue and green images to fine-tune the picture. Red Centering Aligns the red and green images to fine-tune the picture. Note: The ability to change channels is disabled when adjusting the convergence options. The TV must be tuned to a usable signal to converge the picture.

I have a 52inch projection hdtv that is 3/4 years old. The picture is curved and colors misalign, and doubled

remove the back and throw a heavy blanket over the screen, theres gonna be about 6-8 knobs on the inside, tinker with them until all the colored lines u can see on the inside are solid, bright, and straight

52'' Projection TV SONY

this is a problem with the convergence chip. you can try to adjust the convergence in the menu settings of the t.v.
pin cushioning will correct the curves, convergence fixes color seperation.

write the number down before changing them, in case you make it worse.

Mitsubishi 1080 hd series 65" Curved picture

The problem is the convergence circuit.
Mitsubishi used two different types of convergence IC's in this series. The first is a pair of STK-392-570, the second is a single STK393-110. The only way to fix the problem is to replace the appropriate IC'S. In some cases the problem may appear to be intermitent or loose solder connections. Save yourself the anguish and replace the IC'S.
Getting the PowerSupply/ Convergence board
out to do this is tricky and I recommend a professional to do it. Hidden screws on the front of the heat-sink make it difficult to take out and you can break the board easily trying to force it.

Picture curves in @ top and bottom and color convergence is off. was fine yesterday.

There are bad solder connections on the flyback transformer and there is a small fuse open. Pretty hard to do yourself but a professional can do this easily.

Picture is multi color, double shadows, curved

This is failure of convergence out ICs in TV. Qualified TV tech will replace convergence out ICs or board.

Picture looks curved (concave curve) on my sony KP-46WT510

You may have a convergence problem. Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos.

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick email and they will put one together for you. Their kits includes photo instruction guides, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.
