Question about Garmin nuvi 200W GPS Receiver
I have a Garmin Nuvi 200 and it has been working fine. Now all of a sudden it won't turn on (even when plugged into the car charger). How do I fix this?
It sounds like a dead battery?
When it is plugged into the car, you should see a charging symbol, or it will say charging if the screen is off.
Are you sure it is getting power from the car? Check the fuse for the lighter socket, also the power cord has a fuse in the end that goes into the cigarette lighter socket, if you twist the end of the adapter it should open and expose a fuse.
Check these fuses to be sure.
Hope this helps.

If you've tried a hard reset and nothing happens, your ON/OFF switch might be broken. If it's still under warranty, return to Garmin for repair. If it is out of warranty, and you've tried all suggestions here, try this website. They replace the ON/OFF switch with a new one. Fixya.com is not affiliated with this website but they do seem to have a good track record.

well if the plug is not making contact it cant recharge. you need to have it repaired and that may well be costly as it will require a new motherboard. Parts are no longer soldered or repaired The motherboard will be repalaced and the basic board is ^$90 the labour 1.5 hrs o 2 hrs minimum at $95 I am sure you will be able to buy a new model for the same cost

I can't give you a source of the problem but I can give you at least a temporary solution. Turn the unit on without the cord attached. After it comes up, press on the battery button for 10 seconds until the diagnostic screen comes up. Plug the cord in and press Exit and the unit should work while it charges. You will not be able to use it with the computer using this method, however. To do that you need to plug it in while either without powering it on or after it is powered up normally.
