Hello The laser pickup unit's lens may be dirty or dusty. Just put a lens cleaning disc into the tray, and play it at least three times, by ejecting the disc each time, and reinsert in in to. The lens cleaning disc can be bought from most of the electronic spare part selling shops at your town, and won't cost more. If it dose not help you, the laser pickup unit of your RCA device should be replaced with same type and number. OK.
i have an older machien here its a mini hifi system fw 540c it wont play any cd's i put into it it skips tru all 3 trays and than says no disc or disc not finilised. i had it in storage for about 4 months over a winter worked fime b4 can some one tell me what could help before i trow it away (>-_-)> ty<(-_-<)
Sounds like the reader (laser eye) is dirty. The reason why it says "read" is beacuse it is looking for a disc to play, it's not actually reading the disc, more like searching for data to read. Even if you have all five discs in it still won't play. It's like looking through a dirty windsheild, nowing that there is a road there but you can't see it. This is a very common problem and is easy to fix. Go to your local Walmart, or electronics store and purchase yourself a cleaning CD. It will look like a regular CD but with small brushes on one side and might come with some cleaning solution too. Shouldn't cost more than $20.
Maybe you should try cleaning the lens by opening the shelf TOP, and cleaning the lens? I had that problem. Take a Q - Tip with alcohol on it and it will do the job. Careful to not touch any components, and unplug first! The system can electrocute you even if unplugged, so don't touch any electronic component else than the lens inside.
Try a lens cleaner cd, as when the lens gets misaligned or if it's quite old, it will find it harder to read a DVD as the tracks are much closer together than that of a VCD as they are cd's and their tracks are wider apart and easier to read.
Common Problem with AIWA 3 disc machines. I have 3 in my service shop right now.
For tray not rolling in on it's own, the drive rollers have to be changed, along with the Drive Belt.
Also, for CD not reading, try CD lens cleaner.
It might be an older system that can't read computer-made discs, or it could be a disc incapability. Most old players can't read CD-R discs, even if they can play normal/original CDs.
You can try another media but i wont think it will help.
The laser lens in your CD might be dirty or failing.
Try the following solutions:
Clean the laser lens with a DVD player lense cleaning disc.
Lense cleaning discs are available at many electronics retail store.
