My honeywell ct87K thermostat will not turn the heater on

Simple gas warm air heater, the pilot is lit. two wires from wall for old thermostat. when I connect red to red and white to yellow the heater stays on. red to red, white to white (the correct connection) it does not turn on at all. thus, the thermostat and heater both do work.

Sorry, it posted last entry before I wrote on. It is haviing the same problem as the original poster. 2 wires, white to white terminal and red to red terminal. the dip switches are both set OFF as the instructions for a gas wall heater. I have tried other configurations on the dip switch, but they didn't help, so I am back to the both OFF mode. Any help getting this wall heater to fire off would be appreciated.

On your thermostat - R is the power in terminal. Y is the cooling out. W is the heating out. (G is fan out). It does not matter which wire goes to R, the other should go to W - if no heat with a call, the thermostat is bad.

I have the same problem right now. There are only two wires (Red & White) and the white is going to the white terminal where the old one was located. Red is to(R) which I would think was red. Should I try the red one in another colored socket?

Need some help. I rebuilt my old wall heater and it won't turn on. New thermopile, pilot and gas valve. The pilot works, but burner won't ignite. New thermostat too.

turn thermostat to off position check wires from thermopile to stat and gas valve for damage etc . Thermopile has to warm up and make 600 mille volts to work . Try this then open stat and see if it fires up .

Have a ct87k. Got power at wall. Plug t-stat nothing.switches are both off for gas.

Those normally do not fail, they have a mercury switch in them. However there is a cravat they have to be mounted level and up side up. If that is the way it is mounted then just replace it.

That Thermostat will not work on a gas fireplace. The voltage is all wrong. You need a thermostat that will work on millivolts generated by the thermopile on the pilot assembly of the fireplace burner. It will only turn on, because you opened the circuit. It will not turn it off automatically or at all, for that matter.

Better yet, why don't you purchase a Wireless Remote Control that has a thermostat built-in. It's a multifunction remote that will work up to 25 feet from the fireplace and comes with a wall hanger. The SkyTech # 3301TH, should work well for you. http://www.skytechsystem.com/

How and where do I replace a thermocouple on a warm glo wall furnace? Help

There should be a thermocouple in front of the burners that has a copper colored wire that runs from the gas valve to the thermocouple. It is located in the pilot flame as it is a pilot proving switch that tells the gas valve the pilot is lit and its okay to open the gas valve to the main burner.

Replaced mercury thermostat w/Honeywell CT87K - doesn't work!

You need a specific thermostat for a Wall Furnace it is a Millivolt Thermostat and not a 24v standard thermostat....usually it will work anyway however if the powerpile (generator produces millivolts from the pilot light) is weak it may not be producing enough...or the Pilot light may be dirty and lazy...won't produce enough millivolts ...or you can have bad or dirty contacts or connections....or a combination of any of the above.....a 24v Thermostat and particularly a non-mercury thermostat has too much resistance in it for a millivolt system....as your Wall Furnace (other than the fan) runs on less than 1 volt

the two wires are hooked to the baseplate at the R terminal and the W terminal. there may be a switch somewhere on thermostat for electric or gas heat. make sure its in gas mode. make sure batteries are fresh and put in correctly in regards to polarity. make sure furnace is on when doing any settings with the thermostat. make sure themostat is set to "heat". make sure themostat is calling for heat (turn way up to be sure its doing that) . check the troubleshooting guide that came with the new thermostat.

Cannot get new thermostat to work

didn't wire up correctly or if purchased a digital one didn't set up correctly, look at the instructions and should tell you how to set t-tstat up or if you have to remove or move jumper.
