You can also check the properties of your printer settings on the control panel;
Setting Printing Defaults To set default
properties for the printer, click the Printing Defaults button and
choose options in the resulting Printing Defaults dialog box. For
example, you might want to change the printer from printing in portrait
orientation to printing in landscape orientation, or make it print in
back-to-front order instead of in front-to-back order.
Device Settings Page Options The Device
Settings page of the Properties dialog box contains settings specific
to your printer. For example, for many printers you can change the
paper assigned to the paper trays or choose options for manual feed.
Hope this info can help resolved your printer issues.

Re: I have a Dell 5100cn. When sending a print job
Try the following:
Open up the printer in control panel and right click on the printer,
property, click on the option tab. You will see some optional tray
under "Items". If you click on it below you will see "change setting",
select the Tray paper size on both the option 1 and 2 tray module, click apply or ok. Go back
to the general tab and click on printing preferences, paper tray, under
paper source select auto from the drop down list and click apply or ok.
This will auto feed paper from the optional trays only not the MPF tray. From Dell settings
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

This error typically means that the Size of paper defined in the print job being sent from the application does not match the size of the paper the printer has set for the MPF. (in this printer, MPF = Manual Feed)
For example: If you send a Letter size job to the printer from, lets say MS-Word, but the printer currently has Legal size paper assigned in the MPF, this error will result.
You will need to go into the printer's settings and change the tray 2 paper size back to letter. This printer is an oldie and does not rely on the paper tray to tell it what size paper the tray contains. Another possibility is that If your program is sending a print job (which will over-ride the printers settings) that somehow is set up as legal, then you will need to either abort or cancel the print job on the printer or install a legal size piece of paper into tray #1 (the manual feed tray) and then press GO or CONTINUE on the printer to complete the print job!
Hii It could be wrong on this but there should be a setting on the printer for paper size and type for tray 1. Use it to set tray 1 as legal size and then use your program to send to the printer. Another way would be to have no paper on tray 1 and send the job. The display on the printer should say to load legal on tray 1 and hit the button to continue. When you do the printer will now know it has legal paper in tray 1. The last method is only good for that job and will have to be done the same way for another job. Specifying tray 1 as legal paper will allow you to have legal paper in the tray when the job is sent and not have to press the button. All the Best.....
1) Go into the Print dialog window, select your 5100cn printer and click the "Properties" button next to it. 2) Select the second tab, labeled "Paper Tray". 3) Select "MPF" from the "Paper Source" drop-down list. 4) Click the "MPF Settings" button and select "Envelope".
That should allow your program to print to MPF for envelopes. This needs to be done in your software, setting it on the printer's control panel didn't work for me.
Absolutely. Just click on the "PROPERTIES" button found on the "PRINT"menu. Find the "PAPER SOURCE" option, open it and select "Manual Paper Tray" or "Manual MPT". As soon as you confirm your print job, you unit will display a message asking for paper on the manual tray, which is the horizontal slot just above the paper tray. Insert each legal paper manually until your print job is done.
