The region is set in the firmware, and 0 is not an option. You can usually change the region up to 5 times on a drive before it is set forever. There is no way you can make this drive region free.

It is not the drive itself but the software what makes the "region free" job. I may suggest you to download an OpenSource program named MPlayer. While it does not have the bell and whistles of PowerDVD or WinDVD, it does a great job at playing many audio/video formats.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

How to unlock region code 6 from my Matshita BD-LMT UJU-220s

Hi!

There's no RPC-1 (Region-free) firmware for your drive...
You can use AnyDVD to unlock all regions! To get more information about it and download it - look here!

In case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post me a reply before rejecting my answer.
If you are satisfied, rate my solution with the "thumbs" or (even better) add a testimonial.

ASUS M51SN Matshita BD UJ-120 burner does not work - Windows 7

You need to install windows 7 (32 bit) not 64. To change to 64 you have to make internal changes and updates to your notebook. Your notebook is set up for 32 bit systems.

Hi there, need to region free matshita 867s dvd rom. any solution available??

There is a solution, but it costs money, I'm afraid:
http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html

"AnyDVD works in the background to automatically remove the copy protection of a DVD movie as soon as it's inserted into the drive, allowing you then to backup the movie using a DVD backup tool such as CloneDVD and CloneDVD mobile. You can also remove the RPC region code, thereby making the movie region free and viewable on any DVD player and with any DVD player software."

It doesn't make the drive itself region-free, but strips out the region code of any DVD put into it...which has much the same effect.  You can play anything from anywhere, and if you're copying (your own legally purchased, of course) films, the copy is region-free.

Please rate me if you found this helpful.  Thanks.

Repair or replace Matshita UJ-840D drive.

The region code can only be changed up to 4 times and after the 4th change it locks onto that region.
You may be able to update the firmware to make the DVD drive region free, but if you make a mistake then you have a piece of junk.
The best solution :-
You can install software that defeats the region code, there may be some free programs on the Internet but I use RegionFree from
www.dvdidle.com it is not expensive.

Acer 5510 notebook Matshita UJ-845D DVD/CD-R Writer Problem

Unfortunately there are no updates available for the UJ-8xx series (except for Sony - which won't work on other machines) as it just uses an old generic Windows optical device driver.

Your problems lie elsewhere.

These units have very very very strong region restriction - no reported patches or fixes that I can find...

So they come with an original region (the local one for where you bought the laptop) set by the manufacturer. You only have 5 possible region changes before it locks on to the final region permanently*.

There is very little info on the Matsushita (now Panasonic) website - but it appears that when you insert a different region disk into the drive it will automatically change the region restriction setting to that new region (and there goes one of your 5 allowed changes??).

If this is correct then you may start with for example a region 2 restriction (whatever the local region is for your computer) and record various DVDs in region 2 format. Then one day you try (deliberately or accidentally) a region 4 disk. Your drive reads it and changes the default to ... region 4 (using one allowed change)... next you put in one of your old disks - and the drive restriction default is changed back to region 2 (using another of your 5 changes) - until you've used up the 5 changes - when it's locked.

Because it's an odd number, chances are you'll end up with a permanent non-local region restriction...

* and Panasonic/Matsushita will only change it for a cost apparently...

so not very good news...

To help you, try this handy little free tool. It will tell you whether your drive is restricted, which region it's currently set to; and how many changes of the 5 you've already used:
http://hijacker.rpc1.org/discinfo/#Download

now if I could just find out how to change the current region...
