It sounds as if you have the screen brightness setting turned way down for when its on the charger. You might be able to adjust this in the control panel under the battery/power options.

The LCD of my laptop brightens when the charger is plugged in, as the voltage from the mains is coming slightly higher than normal. i.e. 240v

What make and model laptop? What operating system? Many laptops default to a power-saving mode when running on batteries, dimming the screen slightly. When plugged in, there's no reason to save power so the screen is at full brightness. You probably have something like "Power Options" in your control panel that will let you adjust the power options so you can have the screen at full brightness even on batteries if you so wish.

My mytouch 4g lcd backlight is dim but it gets brighter when i plugin the charger, is it the lcd? Or the connector to the lcd.

I'm not sure what a Mytouch is but on laptops if you don't have the power cord plugged in the display is normally dimmer or darker to preserve energy because it is running off the battery. You can make it brighter to some degree by pressing the correct keys on your keyboard. Once you plug the power cord in, laptops automatically display a brighter screen. This is all normal protocol.

Just got cq56-115dx laptop this morning. turned it off after setting it up. Turned it back on and only have blank screen. Power shows lit up.

Hi.

Remove the AC power (charger) and then take the battery out. Plug in just the AC power supply and turn the laptop on, see if it boots up and shows a display on-screen. If it boots let it boot up and then shut it down as normal. Reinsert the battery and try as normal.
If you still get a blank screen can you then tell me if you get any post (splash) information like the Compaq Presario logo before it goes blank.

Good luck.

When l unplug xs20-006 from the charger the screen goes blank, changed power settings but still goes blank ?

When you plug the back in, does the display come back on or does the laptop need to be powered on again?

If you need to power on again, your battery is faulty.

Screen "Flashes" on/off

You could have a faulty CCFL lamp or inverter, To determine if you have a LCD screen, inverter or video card problem, read this and follow these instructions.
Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

The screen is blank but I can see a faint image.

Try reseating the cable that goes to the back of the lcd and also the other end of that cable that plugs into the motherboard. If that doesn't do it then either the lcd or the inverter is bad. Either way when you get a replacement screen for a dell laptop it normally comes with a new inverter as well. If your laptop is under warranty thru dell then you can get it replaced thru them. If you have your serial number then I can look it up and see if your system is still under warranty.

Black screen after returning from florida

plug in > if charge light comes on and screen black proceed.... if no charge light comes on on laptop your charger's not working
plug into external monitor > if the external monitor works fine with laptop then your LCD is not working, you can look for the Function key (should be bottom left) and the monitor button (probably f7) and switch back and forth... this should tell you if the lcd works or not.

LCD Screen problem

You have a failed inverter circuit. This is a very common fault with BenQ and other LCD monitors. I have seen more FP737 and FP731's and all their cousins in the last 2 years then I care to count.

You will be best to take it to a TV technician and have them do the repair. There are ways to fix it yourself, but the chances of success are not great without a decent amount of electronic knowledge.

Call several places and get approx quotes based on the inverter fault. A lot of TV techs will not work on LCD monitors and is another good reason to call around first.

One final thing, check the manufacture date on the back of the monitor, these normally come with a 3 year warranty and it will be either expired now, or very close to it. If it is still under warranty, then contact BenQ near you to facilitate the repairs.
