Question about HP Operating Systems

Restore factory default on HP mini laptop.

How to restore factory default on HP mini laptop? The laptop "mini 1120NR" got a preset owner name and password which I cannot change. Is there a way to restore it to its original factory default mode?

Daniel McMillian Please help me!!??? I don't know how to factory reset my hp mini laptop. Any one got some suggestions. PLEASE HELP IM GETTING SO FRUSTRATED.....

  • singher z Hi, guys! I really don't have a way to restore the mini to the original factory setting. Instead, what I ended up doing was finding a different OS restore image file (Ubuntu Linux) to make a restore CD, which upon running a full partition wiped out HP mini OS completely and started fresh with Linux OS. It seemed for me as the only way to make it work then.

So, my suggestion is that you search online to see if you can locate a Windows image file to make a restore disk, rather than Linux one. Just forget about the factory setting! It's really not worth it to spend over $100 for that, and I don't even like that HP mini's OS anyway, which is intended for totally PC dummies.

    Good luck!

  • singher z Sorry everyone that I don't have the solution to get back to mini original setting. What I ended up to do was finding a totally different OS (Ubuntu Linux) restore image to make a restore CD and then completely wipe out the mini HP OS and started totally fresh then.

It seems the only way then for me to make using that mini pc possible. So, what I can suggest is that you too find some OS restore image file to make a restore CD and start from the scratch. You might be able to find a Windows restore image file to work with rather than a Linux one.

    Good luck guys!

  • singher z Thanks for the help, but I tried and it didn't work because some F10 menu items cannot be reset (and not even selectable). So, I ended up downloading a OS restore file and created a reboot CD to repartition the whole thing, which of course erased everything previously installed. It seems the only way to go and now I got a clean PC basically.

Hope this would help someone else. Basically HP mini cannot be reset on its own, but need a total OS restore.

Hey guy's stop wasting your time on asking stupid questions! The hidden system recovery for HP mini 110 is this~
1st - Make it sure the Adapter and the Battery is already attached on your laptop.
2nd - Press the power button to turn it on.
3rd - When you see the HP logo on screen just easily press F6 rapidly.
4th - Stop pressing the F6 when the "Windows Starting" appears on.
5th - After that easily read all the useful instructions on how to system restore your HP mini 110.

Note: Don't mind the Dell, F10 or anything just do this ok?

  • MX Geek Gal Thank you, thank you, thank you. This solution saved me big bucks to have someone else fix the netbook, and saved me hours of trying other solutions that were much more involved and destructive to the data. This worked like a charm, and I have restored and undone to the correct restore point, even though it does contain viruses and trojan horses. Note to self: make sure everyone in the house has a protected device, not just you - this was my husband's. Will get those bad bugs taken care of and hope all will be 100% again. Thanks!!!

Mini DOES have factory restore capability, Press F11 repeatedly after restart (may need to go through HP's quickstart overlay 1st ie: start windows)
Then Recovery Manager loads and you can pick "Factory Image Recovery" or utilize other options.

Te mini should have a small hidden restore partition. Re-start the computer and press the F10 key when you see the HP start screen. this should take you into the HP recovery console. Follow the onscreen instructions to restore factory defaults.

Good Luck.

Pressing the F10 key or any other F# key does not provide restore options. I tried every F# key because I thought the same thing. I contacted Best Buy where it was purchased and they want $130 to restore the hard drive.

Going through some of these fixes with my HP 311-1037NR with built in verizon wireless aircard it seems f6 repeatedly openes th Memory diag. press and hold f10 opens the bios. PRESS AND HOLD F11 OPENS TH SYSTEM RECOVERY. In this the computer will format the hard drive reinstall the factory software. I takes a good while though and there is a option to back your stuff up.. but i did that way before trying to restore my laptop. Good Luck..

PS. dont forget to have your charger pluged in and do this as soon as you see HP

Hey I had this problem today and I have finally found the way to fix it!!!!
Go to this site from a desk top and DOWNLOAD this program... you will need a USB flash Drive once finished DOWNLOADING you will then send it to your USB FLASH DRIVE then put that USB FLASH DRIVE into your laptop when it is powered off and turn it on it will start the process for you just be patient. You can then CREATE YOUR BACKUP and then continue on to RESTORE your laptop setting to a earlier setting you can choose the date your self. There is also other options there if RESTORE is not what you are looking for.
I hope this is usefull to you I did this and it worked also I did it because I could not get past the password as I did not know it...LOL.
