Try first to ensure that the scart lead at the back of the set or any AV leads that you are using are secure and tight.

Sometimes if the scart lead is not pushed home correctly it will lose audio. Try then to record a sample of video and try playback.
If there is still no sound try another scart lead first.

It will be a process of elimination I'm afraid.

What are the tapes that you are trying to copy? are there genuine copies of films? YES THEY COULD BE COPY PROTECTED how they do that? simple they record the tape with the most minimum srength of signal, if you try to copy it you lose signal strength trough the copy process than the video looks a bit scrambled/discoloured and the sound is bad, if it's the case you could buy a video signal booster (if still available in stores) than you have to copy with a VCR that is separated from the DVD recorder so that you can install the booster from the output of the VCR to the input of the DVD recorder.

Hope it helps!

Cannot get picture/menu on screen!

Hi,

The Sony recorder is connected to the TV via the RCA cables (for both audio and video)? How many inputs does your TV have? One cable input and one RCA line in (making a total of two? Did you eliminate the possibility that the recorder might be defective by trying it on another TV?

VHS to DVD: audio and visual dont match on playback

Hi, this is a problem with cramming too much info onto dvd.
For a good quality dvd, it needs to have about 1.5 to 2 hours of video on it. The more you put it the lower the quality it becomes. Don't forget though , it will never be better than the original.unless you have some specialist software to tidy up sound and flickers in the video.
So I would stick with one tape to one dvd if you want to keep the quality.
DVD's are cheap anyway, you can buy a spindle of 50 Verbatims for £10.

I hope this has helped you understand a little better, but if you need more assistance, then please ask.

Have a toshiba tp 61H95 proj TV- want to connect panasonic dvd recorder and toshiba vhs recorder so I can copy family videos to dvd- can't get hook ups set up for both to work.

Select AV-1 or some thing in TV and plug DVD recorder Video-Audio output in AV-1 input of TV, playback any DVD and confirm its picture and sound in TV. Press Stop button of DVD recorder to stop playback.
Now plug Video-Audio output of VCR in DVD recorder input and select AV Input in DVD recorder, insert VHS tape in VCR and playback it and confirm you get VHS picture and sound in TV via DVD recorder.
Hookup between TV, DVD recorder and VCR is completed.
Playback VHS tape in VCR, Insert blank DVD disc in DVD recorder and press Record while you see VHS tape picture in TV.
Hope this info will help you.

Losing Audio Halfway Through Recording

The audio failure sounds more like a VHS player failure than a DVD software/recorder failure. Both audio and video are transferred at the same time to the DVD, and as long as the DVD recorder is working, that's really all there is. I would check the VHS player and confirm that the sound actually works all the way through.

Running my tv throught my vcr but have no picture only sound

You don't say what kind of tv,model, etc. or if the tv tuner is 'solid state', push button, knob type channel changer.
If you REALLY, REALLY have to use the tv through the vcr.place the signal [antenna, cable box, cable antenna (signal) in vcr RF input.place a blank vhs tape to record, use the RCA jacks[AUDIO & VIDEO] in back of the VCR to INPUT of TV video & audio ( if you have then ) While you are recording, you will be able to see the tv program.
p.s. place the TV\VCR switch to vcr.

No sound Problem - Philips VR550 VHS VCR

If your pre-recorded tapes also play without sound, then check the scart lead is in straight.

If not, then it's more likely to be a dirty audio head.

Try a VHS head cleaner tape.

Do you have a scart lead connected ? if so it is not in properly, and it would not be channel c26, but the av channel on your TV that you would need to be on.
