F8 does not work. The options I have are :safemode, safemode with networking, safemode with command prompt, last known good configuration, and start windows normally. None of them work.

  • Mojomom Apr 17, 2009

I can press F11 for recovery but I don't want to erase everything if I can avoid it. And I don't know that would fix my problem.

  • Mojomom Apr 17, 2009

I'm not sure I can do that. How do you suggest to do boot to a windows installation disk? I have only cd-rom and a few card readers.

  • Mojomom Apr 17, 2009

Well, I tried your suggestion and it did not work. I could change my BIOS. The Windows screen opened and then it went back to my safe mode screen. This screen that keeps opening is the warning screen after you haven't closed down your computer properly. It says a recent hardware or software change could be responsible.

  • Mojomom Apr 17, 2009

I believe I changed the order in the BIOS to boot to the cd, but no repair option is appearing. So I must be still missing something.

If you can still get into your operating system try a couple of things first. Even if it is safe mode.

Option1: Perform a system check for any harware failures (start>run>chkdisk /r) make sure you put a space after the chkdisk.
Option2: If oyur computer was running fine before any updates or software changes you can do a system restore. (start>all programs>accessories>system tools>system restore). Note: this will only work if you have a previously saved restore points.
Option3: Try running a virus scanner if you do not have one use this http://www.avast.com/.
Option4: You must have a copy of windows XP (I am assuming this is your operating system). Restart computer>wait for prompt to boot from cd>let the cd load and then go into repair (R)>hit enter for your partition (the one your os is installed on)>when you are in recovery console use this command "CD " make sure you put the space otherwise it will not reconize the command> then type fixmbr. This should restore your factory boot file that might have been corrupted.
I hope any of these options help you out. Let me know Thanks

If you boot to a Windows installation disk and choose the Repair Option and press "R" for it, you may be able to fix your current installation without losing anything.

You will need a Microsoft Windows Operating System installation CD in your CD drive on boot. If your BIOS is set to boot to CD before the hard drive (if not you can change the order in BIOS) then just look at the scree for the prompt to "hit any key to boot to this CD" and then continue to the repair option.

You will have to change the boot order in BIOS to boot to the CD in order to attempt a Repair Install of your OS. You may have a hot key to press on boot to access a boot options dialogue, depending on your BIOS also.
The "Press any key to boot to this CD" will only appear on the screen for about 3 seconds so don't look away when trying to boot to a disk.

The repair option will only appear after booting to the Windows CD and loading of files is complete. Just follow along as if you are going to format/erase the drive and at a point before you actually re partition and format the Hard Drive you should arrive at a screen that offers the Repair Installation by pressing "R" on your keyboard.

Gateway 7330 gz shuts off or monitor flickers

This probably isn't a driver problem. Your backlight power cable is probably loose. You can tell by getting a flashlight and looking closely at your monitor while it's powered on. If you can see your desktop items then it's a backlight cable problem. I had the same problem with my Gateway. You can remove the front bezel from your display to get to the cable. I just pressed mine up into the display as much as possible and put a little hot glue on it to keep it from backing out. I never had the flickering problem again. Good luck.

Hi, i want to start up the gateway recovery from windows (not system boot) does this have the option to automatically backup my information? if it does, which folder the system back up? Thank you very...

Not possible, and before you start you need to create your "System Recovery Disk" before you continue, if you haven't done so...and you need to backup any data you wish to reload after your re-install

Can't boot.

Simpliest solution is to do a system restore. Reload Windows.

Some people think this is lazy tech work so ill give you a few other options.

1.run a check disk from a boot disk
2.reload the windows files and hope the problem is just a missing file

there are probably a few other things you can try, I just cant think of what they are right now.

Gateway Notebook PC 7330 GZ Power Problem

The most common problem is the plastic that covers the switch breaks. It's a poor design. Take out two screws along the top edge from the bottom near the middle and pry off the keyboard access cover. Then take off the circuit board and you should be able to turn it on and off.
