Question about Welding Tools

1 Answer

I have a Hobart tig TG301. I have no gas to the torch. I have replaced the reg/flowmeter and checked all wiring from foot pedal to welder.

I opened the welder up and found the wiring was tied together with the old bread ties, wire with paper wrapped around it. The wires going to the valve and from the pedal were all melted together. Looked like some of them had been like that for a while so I'm just getting them rewired (about 6-7 wires). I think this will fix the problem, I'll know in the next few days.

Tanks for the reply, I'll let you know

Does it "click" when you push the pedal...the valve working? Have you ever left the hose disconnected for any time? Cutbees in the hose?

Most likely it's a problem with the solenoid used to control the gas inside the machine. you can get a new one from hobart and put in for about half the cost of what they charge at your local. Just look at you owners manual and get the part number for the gas solenoid.

When the display shows RMT it means that the torch trigger is depressed. If that is not the case then the trigger might be bad or shorted.

Tig welder

I don't know much about tig welders. If the push button is on the torch rather than a foot pedal the wiring will be subject to lots of flexing and could be broken internally. I think connecting an analogue ohmmeter across the supply terminals inside the HF box would be favourite. Press the button on the torch the reading should be very low resistance of virtually zero and moving the torch around should not cause the reading to fluctuate.

If that test is ok the fault must be in one of the boxes and a task for an engineer.

The argon pressure seems very high unless the welder is fitted with an internal gas regulator in addition to the bottle regulator. If the gas flow isn't internally regulated that sort of gas pressure is likely to prevent the atmosphere between the electrode and the work ionising and prevent the arc being established and in addition it is likely to be very wasteful of gas.

Personally I don't bother about what pressure is or isn't supplied - using a flowmeter instead the gas pressure is adjusted to provide the correct flow or volume, which should be no more than is needed to provide a suitable gas lens at the welding site at low current. More volume is needed at higher currents when welding aluminium to help prevent oxidisation of the prepared area.

Argon is an expensive gas and a flowmeter cuts waste and soon pays for itself. Why not ask your welding supplier...

Have a CT-200 Hobart Welder Getting high frequency but no current?

Sounds like the problem could be with your tig torch. Inside the tig torch you have a copper cable which carries your main welding current. If there is a break in the copper the high frequency is of such a high tension voltage that it can jump across the break in cable making it appear that your tig torch is fine. If you have a multimeter check continuity from one end of the torch to the other or try another tig torch.

My miller sychrowave tig welder is not blowing sheilding gas when it strikes an arc. The gas is on at the tank. I can hear what sounds like gas or a valve opening when I press the foot control, but my...

Remove the tig torch twist lock from the front of the machine. Step on the pedal as if you were striking an arc and gas should flow out of the twist lock port. If gas comes out of the port, your torch probably has a valve built in (many do) often this is a sleeve on the torch body which you rotate but may not be obvious.
If no gas out of port then its the solenoid or regulator.
You do have the machine in TIG mode and not stick?

Linde welding machine when welding in tig mode foot pedal will not control amphere output it goes from 0- 100 no in between

Check to see if the remote switch has been set, or if you have broken wire in your pedal lead. You might even want to open the pedal housing and take a look see. I've had more than my fair share that the contacts inside the pedal housing were worn or cooked. Good luck, hope it helps

Lost temp control on foot pedal & thumb control

If you have both a foot pedal and a thumb control and neither is working, the problem could be in the 14 pin remote connector on the welder. The pins inside the connector can get worn out and/or broken with regular changing of the remote.

You could also have a bad PC2 board, the front panel control comes after the interface to the remote control.
