Belkin seems to only work when it is connected to another router

Seems to be a problem to all my belkins, but this particular Belkin f5d8231 seems to only work when it is getting internet through another router that has internet. When I plkug the Belkin directly to the modem, it doesn't work at all. I got it down to the Belkin only works when it is connected to another router with an internet already working, but it cannot work when it is plugged alone to the modem. Why is that? and how come my D-Link wireless router works fine when it is plugged in directly to the modem?

SOURCE: Slow speed with my Belkin G Router!!! Help!!!

alright figured out a way to speed up the connections

under firewall - Disable it. Must be slowing down everything. Just make sure you have at least windows firewall (XP) or something else as you are directly connected to the internet now.

Let me know if this helps anyone.

SOURCE: Belkin 54G won't connect to the internet

Are you sure your modem is giving a WAN IP from your ISP? Try power-cycling your modem with your router unplugged then bring up your router next, if you havent tried that already... After that try connecting your modem directly to a PC and set your NIC card to DHCP and see if you get an IP address thats routable to the internet (i.e not a private IP)

I have recently bought a Belkin Wireless Router and I am unable to connect to the Internet on my laptop. What do I need to do to connect my laptop to the internet using the Belkin Wireless router?

your Internet modem or router needs to be connected to the Belkin router's WAN port with an ethernet cable. You'll then need to configure the belkin's wireless settings, it's usually a very easy "follow the prompts" kind of setup.

I have a macbook pro and I am having problem connecting wirelessly to a Belkin Wireless Router N. None of my roommates have problem connecting and I can connect wirelessly everywhere else on campus but not...

Most hotspots are using b/g protocol for the widest compatibility with other hardware. Your macbook pro may not be able to connect tot he Belkin router if it's only broadcasting the N protocol. First verify which protocol the Belkin router is using. If it's broadcasting N, try changing it to use b/g and see if you can connect. I seem to recall that the earlier macbooks needed an update to be N compatible.

are you running the Cisco VPN client from home, where this Belkin is your gateway and connecting to say your work?
If so, have a look in the settings of the Belkin to see if you can enable VPN Pass-through.

Try disabling some of the firewall functions on the belkin to isolate the issue and turn the rest back on.

If for some reason this model doesn't work even after the above, try changing the VPN client's connection settings, there are only two to choose from... (click modify on your connection entry, go to the Transport tab > then choose from:
IPSec over TCP and IPSec over UDP (port 10000)

XP laptop connects to router, but connection doesn't work

first thing you may want to check on will be from your computer.

since you are using windows XP just browse for the available wireless network then click on "Change the Order of Preferred network", once you are in, remove the Belkin SSID from the list and other networks that has to do something with Belkin.

Next step is to changing the SSID and the channel of your router and get it encrypted. Start with WEP, and once you have it connected, work your way up to WPA to get more security. just make sure that your XP has the WPA patch, but since you have SP2, you may have it on.

hope this helps out. if you have other questiosn just lemme know.
