Intermitting sound problems on Onkyo SR-705

Grateful for assistance...sounds comes and goes on all channels on Onkyo. Factory reset, switch off for the night will bring sound back, then it disappears with no apparent reason. Not even the volume hiss.

Has anyone experience this?

No its not hot, and it not set to loud, you just can't hear any thing from radio or blu-ray, its not the player as I connected it directly to the tv. There is no heat problem, and the unit doesn't switches off, it just that I cannont hear any sound

    This might explains it better...

My sound for some reason has a intemitting problem and CANNOT hear anything through my 7.1 speaker setup. When it does work if I ever switch over to radio, standby and back to blu-ray its gone. If I leave it on the current settting when its working, be it bluray or radio, it will play for hours with no problems. but as mention above the minute I switch it over I will lose all sound to the speakers and can take days to come back. I've tried the factory reset option but it deoesn't make any difference

This doesn't happen with zone 2. This plays without any trouble and I assume because its analogue.

I know its not my hdmi cable or blu-ray as I tested both plus I cannot get anything from the radio hence it must be the receiver.

An service center did told might it could be the DSP Card as if the radio doesn't work then it's not processing the digital signal?

Does it only happen when its being stressed (played really loud)? Is it hot? If so, is it well ventilated and away from other heat sources?

Somewhere in here is the answer.

"The AV receiver turns off as soon as it’s turned
on
• The amp protection circuit has been activated.
Remove the power cord from the wall outlet immediately.
Disconnect all speaker cables and input sources,
and leave the AV receiver with its power cord disconnected
for 1 hour. After that, reconnect the power cord
and set the volume to maximum. If the AV receiver
stays on, set the volume to minimum, disconnect the
power cord, and reconnect your speakers and input
sources. If the AV receiver turns off when you set the
volume to maximum, disconnect the power cord, and
contact your Onkyo dealer."

That last sentence is misleading. I don't think they actually want you to play an active signal at MAXimum as a test. I think they mean with all sources attached and an idle one selected, like CD, crank the volume knob. If the amp is not in Protection mode you should always be able to detect some hiss up close.

For another thing, if it shuts down only with speakers attached the problem could be outbound at one or more of the speakers. I would isolate that piece somewhat before throwing my hands up and calling Onkyo. Make sure that the speaker cables are not shorting. Disconnect certain speakers and try it again until you figure out which one(s) are involved. Then it could be the speakers.

You have probably done this, but have you changed the video settings in the setup menu to have the tv using HDMI out? I believe it is under the first option when the menu comes up.
