There is nothing wrong with your slide trays. Your projector needs an adjustment to the cycle contact assembly. The constant cycle mode is a dead-giveaway. You need to take the projector to an Authorized Repair Dealer for this adjustment. Should be relatively quick - - it takes longer to get the case apart than to make the repair!

First, with the tray off the projector, cycle the projector several times in forward and then in reverse. Next, check to make sure the locking ring on the top on the slide tray is LOCKED ON TIGHT. Then turn the tray upside down. On a 140 Slide tray there is an index notch. On the metal plate there is a index hole. Gently release the metal spring of the tray latch and rotate the metal plate until the notch and hole line up. Now the tray should drop on the projector and index properly.

Does the projector run in reverse?? If so, then what you are facing is a timing adjustment.
If it does not cycle in either direction, then there is a high probability that the solenoid "link" is broken. The "link" connects the cycle solenoid plunger to the slide change mechanism.
The good news: There are still parts available (www.micro-tools.com). The less-than-good-news: both fixes are difficult and best handled by a factory-trained repair dealer.

If the first slide is visable and consecutive slides are not, the "dark shutter" (a feature that prevents the eye-popping bright white screen when no slide is present) needs adjustment. A fairly easy adjustment for a factory-trained service dealer with the service manual and the correct tools.

First of all, if you have the remote that came with the projector, plug it in & try that. I suspect that it will not work, but it is worth a try. If it does work, you are a lucky person!
The problem you are experiencing is very common for a projector of that age. The cycle solenoid "link" is broken - or worse - the solenoid has an "open" circuit.This is a pretty complicated replacement and adjustment of the solenoid position that follows.
