Question about Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2) Console
My ps2 plays the blue discs (cd-roms) but not silver discs (dvd-roms)
After extensive research on this subject and working on several Playstation II systems. I found out the reason your system will play only blue disks and not silver is a alignment problem with the laser. It could be tilted or set to high or low. The quickest solution is to call Sony and get a new laser with the shuttle. If i am not mistaken it cost 50.00 and just go to the playstation site select support and it will explain in full detail how to take your system apart and replace the laser and shuttle.

The problem is that the laser power is either too low or the distance the lazer is from the disk is too far. It is easily fixable by opening up the DVD drive of the PS2 and adjusting a wheel (or two depending on which PS2 you have) so that the laser moves closer to the spinning disk. This is how I fixed mine, and it works perfectly, infact better than it ever did!
