I am getting a black streak across the right edge of my paper.

The previous posting recommended cleaning the fusers.

How do I get to them.

Are the rollers visible or do I need to take a part a portion of the machine?

The Fuser is the heated section of the machine, the last process before the copy leaves the main portion of the machine.
You should find two rollers, upper and lower, if these rollers are unable to clean themselves excess toner will build up on the rollers and get passed on to copies later on. you can clean these rollers with some alcohol or similar solution. Be sure the machine has been turned off for awhile as these rollers are extremely hot when at operating temp.
The second question would be, why is the system not cleaning itself. Sometimes if the copier has been on a large run with a lot of dark areas it can overwhelm the cleaning unit, but if this is not the case you will need to determine what is wrong. The Fuser is usually cleaned by a cleaning roller, cleaning web or cleaning wick.
These cleaners are usually white when new, brown to black when well used.
They are usually oiled with a silicone oil which prevents the toner from sticking to the Fuser rollers, so the cleaner may not look too dirty but may be out of oil.
This may be a part you can change or you may have to call in a Tech.
Hope this helps.

I am not completely familiar with the Canon table top machine, but looking at the product on the Canon web site I would look also at the image unit /toner cartridge, Has it been replaced lately?

Check for paper caught in the unit, Or any other sign of excssive toner on one end.

The fuser is usually covered by a heat shield, but if you remove the exit tray and look into that end of the machine, you should see two rollers that run full width of the page. This section should open to allow jam removal, if so open this section to expose the fuser. If no open the Jam clearing area and see if the rollers are accessable.

    Hope this helps.

SOURCE: paper keeps on getting jammed on my canon d860

if you change the fuser asy by the book it goes about 80000 to 100000 copies.
If you only change the fixing film if it isnt goodly adjusted and if there is also problem with pressure roller then that would not be a good idea.

Im telling you these without seeing the machine or without knowing your monthly volume of copies.

These is small volume machine for "home usage", if you want quality and better machine buy Canon ir 3225N. These is serious office machine, with extended parts life.

Hope that helped!

Paper jammed at exit rollers of Canon D860. Paper

If you remove the plastic covers on that side of the printer, you will see a small screw holding a bar against the rollers. Set the printer on end so you can remove this screw with out dropping it into the printer, and then the rollers will be loose enough that you can get the paper out.

  • Press "Additional Functions", press "#", then press the "Right Arrow" button till it says, "Printer"
  • Then press "Set" then press the "Right Arrow" button again until it says "Printer Reset"
  • Then press "Set" again, and the display will ask you "Yes" or "No"

That should clear the error. If it doesn't, get a new fuser.

Sounds like there is a papper jam but I can not see papper. Copies are coming out crumpled.

These machines use a fuser film. When they get torn or go bad they make a paper crumpling sound. When this happens it also causes wrinkles and creases in your copies. There may also be areas of your copy where the print will rub off. This means it is time for a new fusing unit. They are not cheap and removal of the old unit and installation of the new unit is not easy so plan on having a service person replace it. Just do a search for Canon D860 fuser or fusing unit.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

What's the procedure for replacing the fuser on the canon imageclass D860?

Hi Un-plug it first I Have changed many. You need a very small No 2 phlips screw driver like 1 inch long and a regular no 2. First you take the covers off the left side. I think its about 3 or 4 pieces. Look under the black plastic sheet and you will see the fuser. Using your small screw driver remove the the screws holding it in. Un-plug the connectors and pull it out slowly right side first. The thing that goes bad is the fuser sleeve. The replacement to use is the HP laserjet 4000. It should cost about 20-30 $.

Replacing fuser pc1610

Please let me know if there is a technical reference or service manual for the PC1060 (including Image Class D860) printers.

MXM450, Please let me know how to replace the fuser. I have spent an hour trying to get to the fuser but am not sure if it is from underneath the feeder assembly, or through the toner cartridge door.
