Hello there...I've been having a problem with my "fan" making a whirling noise, like a CD has started (yep, I've checked, there's not one in there LOL). So. After reading all of this information I decided to ...what, take the back off the computer? How does one do that exactly? Are there some illustrations somewhere that I can follow?

    Thanks !!!!

You should check and make sure the inside of your computer isn't dusty. Dust will wreak havok on fans and shorten their life. Plus it likes to build up between the fan and heatsink which will overheat your processor. Take the fan off and spin it with your fingers. I like to open the little sticker on the bottom and put some 3 in 1 oil to lubricate it. A smooth spinning fan is a happy computer. It also reduces noise that a dirty fan makes. Hope this helps you.

Hello,

Each memory slot can hold DDR PC2700 or DDR PC3200 Non-ECC, Non-buffered RAM with a maximum of 1GB per slot.

You can refer to this site for more info on your RAM and motherboard.

Hi. The amount of memory that can be installed is limited by the motherboard, not the CPU. That being said, the motherboard you have listed will take the following memory:

Each memory slot can hold DDR PC2700,DDR PC3200 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.

I have upgraded my k7s8xe with athlon xp 3200 cpu. I have adjusted the jumpers to fsb 200 & installed 1gb ddr 400 ram. system keeps rebooting os vista enterprise. any suggestions. also can i install 2...

First of all, if your FSB is set to 200mhz, the system will not support DDR400. "CPU at FSB 200MHz mode, it will NOT support DDR400". The FSB will have to be either 333 or 400mhz in order to utilize DDR400. Only 1GB of DDR400 is supported. As to your rebooting issue, could be because of these incompatibilities and/or you did not properly seat the heatsink/fan on the new CPU, which also means you might not have properly applied thermal compound or might have no applied it at all. All the compatibility information for this motherboard can be found at: http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=K7S8XE

Cpu fan noise problem

It appears that the 1GB RAM that you installed is generating more heat due to the density of the chips they require more power. This is what is causing the fan to work harder. To verify this you can re-install the original memory and see if the fan noise reduces due to lower heat.

Its about the memory card

The board supports upto 4 GB RAM. PC3200 RAM is supported.

1. Reset CMOS settings by CMOS jumper.

2. Try updating BIOS of your motherboard from :

hi

is this your motherboard? http://shop.pcmag.com/shop/product_specs/Intel+D915GAG+BLKD915GAGL10+Motherboard/22673983.aspx

if so, it is ok for you to upgrade your memory up to 2gb. btw, just be sure to properly install the rams to the slots.

since youve purchased 2 x 1Gb ddr400 , put on color blue slots.

hope this helps
