My mic doesn't work in conjuction with the video camera. when i try to use my webcam, i cannot hear the other person, and i cannot be heard by the other person. furthermore, i cannot adjust the volume slider because it is grayed out. (the video quality is fine it is just silent). and i know the mic works because when i make call on msn messenger (without the video--just the call function), the mic works fine. by the way, my Logitech camera is a QCam Connect with a built-in mic. please help. thanks

The speed of light and the speed of sound just don't mix well on a webcams. There is a process delay with these cameras. The only remedy I know of is to get a webcam with greater memory capacity. Say, a 3.1meg webcam. The logitech only has 300K of memory and has a slower response time. Recording with a low res window helps too. 160x120 verses 320x240. This helps with less response delay time between cams. Also, using an external mic helps too. You'll need to tweek the distince between the mic and the webcam to sinc the video and sound. Let me know if I can be of further assistence with this. I'll try to help you resolve this.
1.Check whether your cam has built in mic. 2.if then connect the mic signal cable to the MIC in connector in your sound card. 3.if your webcam doesnt support MIC functions. Connect the head phone with mic to mic/audio slot 4.if you have already connected Mic. then the problem with the sound card settings in the instant messenger menu. 5. Specify proper sound card manufacturer in the audi settings found in the preferences or options or settings menu in IM software. thank you !
Check that your mic is not dissabled in the volume properties, but also check that your instant messenger is set to recognise sound and audio.
The best thing to do is to try recording a short video in windows movie maker 2 to check the cam is working ok
