This error is error 0004 - this error comes up before any install occurs

make sure the install discs are spotlessly clean... and you are starting them in the correct order

Can you post the exact error message, also when do you get this message. Is it when the OS is installing, before the Install, etc?

when exactly do you get that error message ?

Most times the recovery discs don't work. Why not just get an operating system disk and reinstall the operating system?

Have you tried doing a System Restore? System Restore will let you select a Restore Point (date and time) before you started having problems. System Restore will not delete your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs (unless the program was installed after the Restore Point you selected). System Recovery on the other hand will delete everything and set your system back to the point when you first purchased it.

To start System Restore click Start/Programs or Start/All Programs. Click Accessories/System Tools/System Restore. When it opens you will have the option to select another restore point (date and time) than the one shown.

This means that your Averatec 3200 XP Laptop will automatically find and install all the drivers for your system, with hardly any user interaction. If you have installed a new windows operating system and half of your Laptop just wont work (with errors like no sound no internet or bad graphics) then this is exactly what this CD has been designed to fix repair. You can also use this CD Disk If you just need to return you.....lots more averatec 3200-series drivers information here.

this is the problem if the system files have gone corrupt. you will have to do system recovery on the computer. recovery is the process of reloading the operating system with the recovery discs. by from the number given 678-715-3329. give the information they need of your computer and they will ship you the right set of recovery cd. put the first cd inside and shut the computer off then restart the computer and follow to put the rest cd as the instruction comes on the screen.

I need to find the recovery disc (3) for my

You may be lucky enough to find them on ebay. If not just use a regular Windows OS disk and then download the drivers from Averatec: Click here for the link: http://www.trigem.com/us/support/drivers.asp

Averatec 5100 series. the disc drive makes some clicking and other noises, but will not play disks. They are spinning some when I open it up. I am trying to play the recovery disks and can't

It is NOT NORMAL for a CD-ROM to experience any of the below symptoms.
  • No noise
  • Clicking during accessing the CD-ROM.
  • Noises when the CD-ROM is not being accessed.
If you are exhibiting any of the above issues it is likely that the CD-ROM drive is defective and it is recommended that it be replaced.

Hello

I don't know why, but some do and some don't with Acer, even on the same models. In my opinion they all should. I would recommend making a set of back up discs with all the drivers and any of you files that you would want to keep, just in case something happens.

COMPUTER PROBLEM

You're computer is still good and will work fine after an operating system reload. You can order a set of recovery discs directly from Acer, or you can purchase an operating system disc from Walmart or Bestbuy, either way will work. Keep in mind that if you order recovery discs from Acer that the operating system and the drivers for your machine will be included. If you just purchase an operating system disc, then you will have to go to Acer's support site and down load any drivers that you need after the install. Also, check in the set up to see if the machine is still recognizing the hard drive. If it doesn't, you may have crashed the drive during the interruption.

Yes, you should instead use a windows installation CD or DVD in that case.
