Roll back to media player 10 on add/remove programs. you dont even have to remove the old creative software on the pc. it should recognise straight away. jusr remember to download the 2.11 firmwire and not the other 1!
All.... I've been reading all the blogs on a solution for a Zen Touch going to Recovery Mode and not being recognized by the PC when plugged in. I finally resolved the problem based on suggestions from the various websites I visited. In a nutshell, it's true you have to not have any traces of WMP11 on yoru PC. It's best to use another PC running on WMP10. After you download the firmware version you want onto your PC, plug in your Zen Touch (WMP10 will recognize it), then run the firmware executable file. You'll need to reinstall all your music files since the firmware re-install will delete all your files. It worked for me after being out of action for almost 3 months. Just like getting a new toy! Nice to have my music back!! Thanks to everyone for sharing your trials and tribulations and solutions!!!!
Solution # 2 isnt entirely true. If you you use a pc that has Windows Media Player 10, just install the driver for the Zen Touch, then the firmware version 2.11.01 can be installed. Once the Zen is working again, it can by synced by WMP 11 just fine and recognized as a "plays for sure" device. (learned this all the hard way)
I had the same problem and the solution is documented on the Creative labs message boards. This happens if you upgrade the firmware with a computer that has media player 11, Which KILLS your Zentouch. (Thanks Creative!!) The solution, as partially noted by the other poster, is to rollback Media Player to version 10 AND to eliminate all traces of Creative software on your PC. Reboot, then plug in the Zen, it will be regognized by MP10, and then run the firmware upgrade software. I found it easier to do this by using a different computer rather than uninstalling software from mine. After this MP11 does work.
There might still be hope. If you downloaded firmware version 2.11.01 it will not be recognized by creative organizer; you will need to install plugins to make creative organizer recognize it again. Go to www.creative.com/support --> downloads and follow the links to download the plugins. There are 1 or 2 to download. Do you have windows media player 10? If so then the zen should be recognized in wmp 10 and you can download songs that way. If you have windows media player 11, you will need to roll back to windows media player 10 for it to be recognized. NOTE: if you don't use windows media player to sync songs, then just ignore everything I said about it.
