Re: Confused!!!!

Roll back to media player 10 on add/remove programs. you dont even have to remove the old creative software on the pc. it should recognise straight away. jusr remember to download the 2.11 firmwire and not the other 1!

Re: Confused!!!!

All.... I've been reading all the blogs on a solution for a Zen Touch going to Recovery Mode and not being recognized by the PC when plugged in.  I finally resolved the problem based on suggestions from the various websites I visited.  In a nutshell, it's true you have to not have any traces of WMP11 on yoru PC.  It's best to use another PC running on WMP10.  After you download the firmware version you want onto your PC, plug in your Zen Touch (WMP10 will recognize it), then run the firmware executable file.  You'll need to reinstall all your music files since the firmware re-install will delete all your files.  It worked for me after being out of action for almost 3 months.  Just like getting a new toy!  Nice to have my music back!!

Thanks to everyone for sharing your trials and tribulations and solutions!!!!

Re: Confused!!!!

Solution # 2 isnt entirely true. If you you use a pc that has Windows Media Player 10, just install the driver for the Zen Touch, then the firmware version 2.11.01 can be installed. Once the Zen is working again, it can by synced by WMP 11 just fine and recognized as a "plays for sure" device. (learned this all the hard way)

Re: Confused!!!!

I had the same problem and the solution is documented on the Creative labs message boards. This happens if you upgrade the firmware with a computer that has media player 11, Which KILLS your Zentouch. (Thanks Creative!!) The solution, as partially noted by the other poster, is to rollback Media Player to version 10 AND to eliminate all traces of Creative software on your PC. Reboot, then plug in the Zen, it will be regognized by MP10, and then run the firmware upgrade software. I found it easier to do this by using a different computer rather than uninstalling software from mine. After this MP11 does work.

Re: Confused!!!!

There might still be hope. If you downloaded firmware version 2.11.01 it will not be recognized by creative organizer; you will need to install plugins to make creative organizer recognize it again. Go to --> downloads and follow the links to download the plugins. There are 1 or 2 to download. Do you have windows media player 10? If so then the zen should be recognized in wmp 10 and you can download songs that way. If you have windows media player 11, you will need to roll back to windows media player 10 for it to be recognized. NOTE: if you don't use windows media player to sync songs, then just ignore everything I said about it.

Stuck in recovery mode--would love to avoid buying a new mp3

I had the same problem as your and it stopped working yesterday. After search for helps and now it is working again after I reloaded the firmware. But unfortunately everything is gone. You have to reload your musics again. You can try this out: 1) go to creative labs website to download the "Recovery Tool". 2) at Recovery Mode of your zen there are options: Clean Up, Format All, Reload Firmware, and Reboot. Try out Clean Up first if it still not working then try to Format All. After that try the Reload Firmware. After you done the Reload Firmware. 3) Shut down your Zen and try to connect it to your computer. Now your Zen will automaticlly power On and computer will recognize it as a drive. 4) Open the Recovery Tool you have downloaded at creative labs website. This tool will detect your Zen and follow it's instructions: It works with my windows Vista. Well, it works for me, I think it will work for your too. Good Luck!
May God bless.

My creative Zen 8Gb wont allow more than 597 songs..

I'll run a cleanup on your zen, if that doesn't work then you should format it and re-transfer everything. Additionally, you may want to upgrade your players firmware.

How to enter the Zen’s Recovery Mode for Clean Up, Format All, Reload Firmware, and Reboot:

1. With the Zen off, press and hold the "play/pause" button.

2. Continue to hold until you perform Steps 3 and 4. If you accidentally release the button, start the procedure again.

3. Gently push the end of a thin object (like a pin or straightened paperclip) into the Reset hole. You should be able to feel the release click of the button.

4. Slide the On/Off/Lock switch towards the power button and hold until the boot screen appears on the display.

The Recovery Mode screen appears, and four menu items are shown:

Clean Up: A cleanup of the file system and database files takes place. All (uncorrupted) data should stay in tact. When the cleanup is complete, select Reboot. Your player restarts and starts rebuilding its music library. All files should remain intact unless they were detected as being corrupt.

Format All: This will completely reset the Zen and remove all user stored files on it.

Reload Firmware: This will prepare the Zen to accept a reload, new, or older firmware based on the specific firmware file you download and execute on a computer. Selecting this option will prevent your Zen from being able to boot, so make sure you have the firmware file on you computer and ready to load.

Reboot: This will execute a soft reboot of the Zen's operating system.

How to Clean Up, Delete Temp Files, and Reformat the Zen using Zen Media Explorer:

1. Plug the Zen.
2. Go to Zen Media Explorer.
3. Select "Settings and Information".
4. Select the "Tools" Tab.
5. This page will show you the options to Clean Up, Delete Temp Files, and Reformat the Zen.

(Warning: When reformatting, you will lose all files you put on the Zen)

Creative zen mp3 help please

You will need to put the Zen into recovery mode and erase the firmware, then reload the firmware. Follow these steps:

To Erase the Firmware:

1. Get a paperclip and straighten it out.

2. Hold down the Play/Pause button, and put the paperclip through the reset hole. Release the paperclip while continuing to press the Play/Pause button until you see the screen change.

3. Select "Reload Firmware."

To Load the new Firmware:

Go to --> downloads. Click through the navigation and download the latest Zen Touch firmware. Reboot your computer, then plug in your Zen via USB cable. Double-click the firmware icon and then click upgrade.

Creative Zen Touch firmware problem

This means both systems contain a bug, or cookie. If the firmware you accessed isn't applying itself to the device, this means the system itself has been corrupted. Double check with your system configuration properties on each device, and tell me whats going on from there.

Don't panic!
