BIOS doesn't give any option to enable those Sata headers, it's automatic. You just pick a Sata header, and plug into it.
Any one you want. BIOS will automatically recognize, that there's a device plugged in, and to THAT Sata header. That's what's nice about Sata.

When you reinstalled XP Pro, did you see where it asked if you wanted Sata drivers? You have the option to use it, or skip over it.

I bought an hp p6130f, it is a bare bone (CASE AND MOTHERBOARD, ONLY) the problem is that the motherboard does not recognize any hard disk I connect, I tried all 4 SATA connectors, still, it asks to...

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head would be to reset the bios (there may be a jumper to do so....or check your manual) or see if there is an updated version of the BIOS for your motherboard. Anything BIOS related be sure to get EXACTLY the right update for your motherboard and make sure you follow the instructions EXACTLY. Making a mistake when flashing the BIOS can kill your motherboard.

First, try a different sata cable...

If that doesn't work then flash your Bios to the latest version. You can get it here:

I got a compaq presario sr1130nx, and i tried to install and sata hdd but it does not appear on the bios screen, it's not detected at all...

According to your problem first make sure that the hard drive is OK and working fine. You can attach with another PC to be sure that the drive is OK. If the hard drive is working properly then change the SATA cables (data and power). Check that you have connected all the cables properly with motherboard, SMPS and hard drive. Make sure that the hard drive is motherboard supported. If it doesn't solve your problem then change the bios settings. Make SATA enabled in bios. Check the SATA mode in bios. Proper bios settings can make your drive working if the drive is OK. For proper bios settings you can take help from motherboard manual.

Picked up a HP dc7100 but will not boot from sata

You should have an option on the dc7100 in bios to enable sata in the devices section. Mine always worked fine with sata. If nothing else works remove the security chip, reset the cmos and reboot with the Hard Drive connected and it should connect. If that doesn't work Try flashing the bios just in case it got corrupted.

System not recognizing dvd writer. new build. 2nd one I took the first one back thinking it was defective. HP dvd1270i dvd writer

Could be the motherboard's SATA connection is bad or not activated in the BIOS. I assume you have tested the SATA cable and verified that the SATA power connector is working. You may need to verify in the computer's BIOS that the SATA settings are on and correct. Do you have another SATA drive that is known to work that you can test in the computer to verify the SATA connection is working? Also some motherboards have a jumper on the board to disable and enable the SATA connection on the board. Verify that if there is a jumper it is in the correct position.

My laptop went all wrong when i formated it...

Your sata is enabled in bios you need to disable it first.
When you power up the computer pressF2 or "del" key to enter in bios .
Then disable SATA option then save settings then check.

Thanks for using fixya.

My cpu dont see new hdd wd5000avvs ,motherboard Asus P5LD2 SE. i trying omost everything. help;/

are you using ide or sata connection? if your using sata conection between your motherboard and harddrive, you must enable it in your bios, just reboot your pc and keep pressing F2 while its booting to prompt your bios. There you can look for IDE/SATA configuration. After enabling your sata, save any changes before you exit and reboot... Just give it a try...

Computer doesn't see new secondary hard drive

There is no option in the bios to enable sata. It appears that the sata ports are just for decoration (hence hp using IDE)
