I have a 6.5 that only runs for 4-6 seconds after priming, if I continue pushing the primer bulb it will keep running. I took off the airfilter. I removed the Bowl and 1st blew out the carb and bowl with compressed air, then with carb cleaner. I blew compressed air up the fuel line to the tank to make sure it wasn't obstructed. Put it all back together and it runs exactly as when I started!

and put them together wo any gasket. blew debris out w comp air
put together it ran fine then it dropped a push rod on the intake rocker

good winter project now huh ?
thanks for all of your accurate help shack

Your engine model # 128602 Type 0212-E1. Forget about ordering from Sears and paying shipping and waiting a week. Go to your local Briggs and Stratton dealer (most shops are) and buy part # 694395. Should cost about $3.00

SOURCE: have a craftsman model :917.273621,

try the coil. the coil will produce the spark for the spark plug seeing as there is no battery, try replacing it with another of the same power.

SOURCE: briggs and stratton 6.5 intek runs only if i keep

Drain the gas. Remove the aluminum float bowl on the carburetor. Dont lose the exterior washer. Clean the brass bolt very well that hold the bowl on...paying very close attention to the small holes near the top of the bolt. Use no metal objects to clean this brass bolt as it also functions as the main jet to the carburetor. If you clean it till it is nice and shiny and reinstall it (not TOO tight) then your fuel flow problem may be resolved. Hint: Install an inline fuel filter.

SOURCE: will only run on fuel that is primed into carb.

Check for proper operation of the float and needle. If that is okay, clean the jets and all holes. if the main jet is blocked or the holes going into you will not get it to start.

most of the time you will not need new parts but the only parts out of the kit you will need is the needle valve (the part on the float) and the bowl gasket the first thing you do is take off the bowl then there is a pin that holds the float down pull it out with a pair of pliers i like one sided wire plyers then drop the carb and bowl in carb acid for 45 min i use chem dip u can get the gallon can for 25 bucks at autozone or advanced auto after 45 minutes pull out the carb and blow off wih air chuck from an air compressor blow out all the littlle holes they are inside and out reinstall float and needle valve reinstall bowl turn air fuel mixture screw all the way in till snug do not over tighten or youll damage it turn back out counter clock wise 2 turns reinstall carb thank me

I had the same problem with mine. I talked to briggs help line and that was useless and also talked to 6 other repair shops. Seems to be a dirty little secret they are keeping about the defective carbs they use. Only way to fix it is to get the redesigned carb they have out now. They changed the fuel bowl and solenoid assembly. Carb kits did me no good.

remove the sediment bowl on the bottom of the carb and see how much dirt/contaminent is in the bowl, then lift the float (the metal or plastic round donut shaped object in the bowl) and see if gas runs out,if not then the carb is plugged and engine wont get gas to operate, then you need to try carb cleaner or a complete carb rebuild

Engine starving for fuel, fuel filter very low, almost empty

your fuel pump is diaghram actuated by pulses from crankcase pressure, if you look there is a small tube that runs from pump to valve cover, pull fuel line off carb and have some one crank it over to see if it's pumping. could be pump or blockage between tank and pump, if fuel flow seems good to carb, i would pull bowl off and check for dirt and also make sure anti run on valve, the thinghy that holds the bowl on to carb is opening properly, it should open and close when you turn key from off to run, beyond that it could be you have some water in your gas.

Fuel in tank going into engine and mixing with oil

The float needle and seat are leaking and not shutting off the fuel when carb bowl if full. It then flows down the intake into the cylinder, past the rings and into the crankcase. Have the needle and pressed-in brass seat replaced. Could save yourself some money if you removed the carb yourself and took it in.

My briggs & stratton will not start

If the engine fires on starting fluid, then you are missing fuel, so you need to start with the source, is fuel getting to the carb? if not why not. Check fuel lines, shut off valves and filters.
If it is, is the carb float allowing the bowl to fill?
If there is fuel in th float bowl, then you need to look at mixture and idle settings.

hope this is of some help.
