Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Start up screens are off to the left.

My AL 1912 always boots up with the initial screens half off to the left, so I can't read them. Also, when I go into setup, it is the same. Even the Windows splash is off to the left. Everything is fine after that.

Thanks! Although the menu settings of horizontal position didn't do anything, when I hit auto config, everything was properly set.

There's nothing wrong with the monitor. Monitors remember the settings for different video modes, including horizontal position. The video mode used when the splash screen displays is a size almost every monitor can handle. Then the mode switches to whatever you've set once Windows finishes startup. As long as the display is normal once Windows is running, you really don't need to be concerned.

If you want to correct the problem, you need to put the monitor into the same resolution and use its menu functions to adjust the size and position. Try pressing F8 when the machine boots to get into the Windows startup menu. This will probably also be shifted, so you can adjust the settings while the menu is being displayed.

Hi Muzik1

BOOT MEDIA ERROR AT POST

You don't say which Operating System you use, so my answer will be presented in general, Windows terms. If yours is a non-Windows Operating System, consider applying the logic and principles involved here to your own Operating System and, if in doubt, please feel free to add a Comment or Clarification to this Question, including information about your Operating System.

Unfortunately the symptoms you describe can have several causes such as Boot Menu settings error, incorrect BIOS settings, a Boot Sector virus or corruption of the System Files.

Check whether there is a CD or DVD in the laptop's optical drive and if the Boot Menu is set to 'Boot from CD'.

Remove any CD/DVD, Memory Card or USB Flash Drive from the computer. Look for the correct function key to tap at the bottom of the initial POST screen to bring up the Boot Menu and use the arrow keys to select 'HDD' then press enter.

If this does not resolve the problem, tap either the F2 or DEL key (see options at the bottom of the screen) on the initial POST screen to enter the BIOS Setup and select 'Load Default Values' > F10 > enter.

If this does not work, tap the correct function key to enter the Boot Options Menu (often F6, F7 or F8) and use the arrow key to select Start in Safe Mode.

If the computer boots in Safe Mode > Start > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore > Restore my computer to an earlier time > select a highlighted date on the calendar to the left and an event on the event schedule to the right that both precede the first incidence of the fault. > Restore > Restart the computer.

If this does not resolve the problem, use the Operating System installation disc to perform Start up Repair (Vista/Win 7) or press 'R' at the second repair option after the F8 agreement screen (Win XP).

If this does not work or no repair option is available, you will probably have to remove your hard drive and back up any important data to a 2nd computer or external storage device and then re-install your operating system, device drivers, programs, utilities and security software all over again.

I hope this helps.

I have hooked my Acer 1912 monitor up to my toshiba laptop as a second screen. When I select a resolution of 1280 x 1024, the display on the monitor slides over five inches to the right and I only see half...

Friend,
On the monitor go to settings and shift the screen to the left till the display is correct. However, please check for other resolutions after you have shifted. May be the monitor is not geared up to take on 1280 X 1024. Check that as well.

I have 1recovery **** named aspire 5610 dvd2 should i have a dvd1 disk also

go to http://www.sysresccd.org/Download
download the iso and burn it to a cd.
boot your computer with it
read the explanations coming up on the screen and when you see that you can choose how to start, type "wizard"
choose the top choice (auto)
when it starts right click on the desktop and start GPARTED.
one of the discs will be marked as "boot"
right click the disc called "recovery" (or the one that is not marked as boot).
choose manage flags
set it to Boot.
press apply on top (not always needed tho)
in the left picture (the one that opened from the start)
type reboot
remove the cd when you see the acer logo again.
the acer recovery manger should start.

Start-up shows "Launch Start-up recovery" but am unable to proceed

This is Vista you are running and there are a couple of options. I'll go for the easy one first

Boot and insert Vista install or recovery DVD (any Vista disc will do for this)

Reboot and hopefully it will offer the option to boot from the DVD. Take this option and follow it through until you are offered the option to install Vista or repair your computer. Just follow things though from there and it MAY repair the boot problem.

If it does not offer you the initial boot option then look on the initial boot screen for the boot options key - probably F11 or F12 - and press that during initial boot to obtain the boot options screen

my guess is that your ram got loosed a little bit. that is why some of your system files are not loading correctly. Try re-inserting you ram or memory. just always remember that computer parts are very fragile so do not force to dislodge anything.
