Sprtcmd.exe-bad image Application DLLC:\WINDOWS\system 32\NTMARTA.DLL not a valid image. Check this against your installation diskette

Does not follow "boot-up" protocol. Can not access Windows Update. DLL files confiscated by Avast anti-virus, but says there is no virus in it, and will not let me restore them. After boot is done cannot dial up until after clicking on internet explorer browser. Get a window after bootup saying: sprtcmd.exe-bad image Application DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\NTMARTA.DLL not a valid windows image. Check this against your installation diskette. I have windows XP service Pack 2, downloaded from the internet, no diskette available.

I had just done a system restore and all was fine. I needed virus software so I down loaded Avast and did a total system scan. now windows won't open up. It just hangs there w/ a black screen. it said something about the file view.exe being the reason.

You may be able to perform a restore, From the start menu chose programs>accessories>systemtools>System Restore
Choose a restore point that you think has a best date and time when your pc was working better.

Generally this error means you got the wrong version of the dll installed. IE you are running XP and installed one for Win98 and the one for XP is slightly different.

Sometimes this is a path issue and all you need to do is to copy (not move) the DLL and put it with the others in System32

In addition there are a few specific problems which cause this type of error
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907300

Autocad also has a similar problem for which there is a patch.
So please be more specific.
Is this just one dll? If so what is it?
What application and what consequence?

You should also try reregistering the dll
using your example
go to start / run and type
regsvr32 xxxx.dll
hit enter and wait for it to say success

A full reinstall of your operating system is required unless you have the technical expertise to download and create a boot disk, copy the file from you installation media (cd/dvd) into the directory specified. This process is far more intensive than a quick solution from myself could provide.

Many DLL error messages on start up

Your Operating System is corrupted, probably by a virus or a program you recently installed.
The best solution would be to reinstall your Operating System (OS).
Remember to back up your data before OS installation.
