Question about Televison & Video
TV POWER WILL NOT STAY ON TURNS OFF IMMEDIATELY WHEN TURNED ON. HAD IT HOOKED UP TO A VCR AND THINKING MAYBE THE REMOTE NEEDS PROGRAMMING. GRANDKID TRIED TO GET IT SET UP NOW IT WON'T STAY ON mine started to shut off and on about a month ago...now it wont even power up......I also have a 32" toshiba that did the same thing!!!
I dont think the v c r has anything to do with your problem the fact that it started turning off and back on indicates that there is a shut down problem starting in your tv ,,it turns off for safety reasons it was made to do just this when there is an over voltage problem with your high voltage section of your tv to keep from any fire starting ,this is its only safety ...so the turning off is indicating that it has a power problem ,i think it would be safe also to say that its not the remote either i think you need to cary tv to shop and have it checked by a rep man but if you know how to trouble shoot the problem i would look in the high voltage area for the problem like the voltage being too high an the annode lead ,,,,the red wire is verry high volts be careful,,,,,,, also some toshiba tv had problems in lv power supply from capaciators being leaky ,,,,,,,

There are many reasons for this behavior. The CRT is not likely the problem. Perhaps one of the most common is the horizontal output transistor. This is a relatively cheap part and can be replaced easily. Figure on $10 for the part plus the local labor rate for the total repair cost.
Even with today's repair cost, the set may be worth the repair if the picture was good before the failure. A replacement set will be over $200 for sure. This is a judgement call on how much to spend and where. It may be worth the $50 or so to get an estimate from a local service shop.
Keep us posted.
