Kenmore gas Range -- Control Panel not working

My Kenmore Gas Range (model 790-7885) is only 15 months old and I've only used the oven a dozen times. I used it Sunday and it worked fine, but Monday the control panel was dark and none of the buttons work. The gas stove top still work, just not the oven. I guess I need to fork over money for a new control panel?

That has been happening with me too. Paid a repairman to come out and reconnect the control panel wiring, said it needed a new control panel - very expensive, almost as much as a new stove. After he left I tried again and stove worked, but few months later and it won't heat again. Gddmn Sears!! Only a few years old!

So what would be the point of replacing the board (at great expense) when I have already shown the board was fine since it worked for awhile? Sounds to me like Sears is scamming with poor connections to ensure pricey repairs!

Hi. your assessment is correct. when you have normal operations with the stove top and the control panel is blank or non operational, this will confirm either a wiring harness issue or a dead control circuit board. The wiring harness can sometimes become lose or the connectors can become corroded but, in this issue, i am sure its the ECB(electroninc control board). In this case, you will have to replace the board it self.

Please rate and god bless:)

Could this be the case after a severe storm (?power surge)? The gas cooktop is working but the electrical panel is dead.

After a power failure, our model 665-75132301 Kenmore gas range showed a PF 5ab code. I followed the directions in the manual, but the code will now only go between PF 5ab, and E6 5ab. We have left it unplugged for an entire weekend, disconnected and reconnected all the connections in the control panel, but the codes will not change. Can anyone help us?

I have the SAME problem, this time about 18 mo after guying new. Got a quote for $129 just to visit although parts extra. Guess what, new "controller" is $80 froms searsparts direct and it's a plug in unit at top of stove -- take off control panel (don't order this part, it's just a cover) by removing screws and replace. You might also try just jiggling connections in case of simple corrosion. I haven't taken apart yet but thought I'd share this.

Small back elements only work on high settings

The infinite switch
on the control panel controls the power to each surface element. If you have no heat at an element and the element and terminal block check ok, then you may have a defective infinite switch. Disconnect power to the range and remove the console back panel. Locate the switch and check for overheated wires or faulty terminals first. Test the switch's contacts for continuity with a multi-meter. If defective, replace the switch.
If the infinite switch does not appear to be defective, then you should check for proper voltage to the switch. This is a live high voltage test and should only be performed by qualified persons.

Most modern ovens use an electronic control board
to control the oven functions. These models will use the control board to operate the oven safety valve on a gas range or oven, and the bake and broil elements on an electric range or oven. If there is no power to the igniter circuit, or the element circuits, then you should check the control board to verify that there is power at the appropriate output relay. These are live voltage checks and should be performed by qualified persons only. If there is no output voltage then the control should be replaced.

The oven safety valve
(also called the gas valve) is the part that ensures that gas is not released until the igniter has reached the correct temperature needed to ignite the gas. While this part can fail, it is uncommon. If the hot surface igniter does not glow you should first verify that you have voltage to the circuit. This is a live voltage check and should be performed by a qualified person. If voltage is lost at the valve terminals then you should verify the continuity of the bi-metal in the valve using a multi-meter.

Kenmore Elite Gas range, model # 790.79363401 The range works but the oven does not seem to heat up. It appears to ignite, just not get hot.

Hello,

the problem should be from the heating element of your Kenmore Elite Gas range. The heating element is either defective or may have loosed contact as a result of heat coming out of the Oven. The heat coming from the oven may have melted the wire connected to the heating element which might not make it heat up.

Disassemble the oven and check if its actually the wire connected to heating element that got melted, or its time to replace the heating element.

Good luck.

Kenmore gas oven; range&broiler work, not bake cycle-bad ignitor?

Well there are other parts that control the igniter, but if you can remove the igniter and look for any cracks. Most are hard to find so you may need a magnifying glass.Any crack no matter how small will keep it from glowing. The gas will not flow until the photo senser has detected the igniter glowing for several seconds. You can get a parts breakdown at SearsPartsDirect.com.Well hope this helps.

Replace the glowbar ignitor in the oven. Turn off the gas supply. Remove the oven racks. Remove the base pan in the oven to access the ignitor. Most plug in. Some have wire nuts.
Your local appliance parts store will need the model number or the ignitor for a correct replacement.

My kenmore oven is beeping and will not stop. the display shows F-1.

Please use the chart to determine which stove you have. You will have to look at the model number. The first 3 numbers will be the series on the chart. In most cases an F1 error would require replacment of the electronic control. This part is commonly refered to as an EOC or ERC. However this type of repair is usually reserved for repair specialists.

KENMORE Range/Stove/Oven Fault Codes – 362 Series (General Electric)
F1 = Stuck Touch Pad Key - Replace Electronic Range Control (ERC).

KENMORE - 911 Series (General Electric/Roper)
F0-F1-FF = Failed transistor in Electronic Range Control (ERC).

KENMORE Range/Stove/Oven Fault Codes- 665 Series (Whirlpool)
F1-E0 EPROM Error - Electronic Range Control (ERC).
F1-E1 EPROM Error - Electronic Range Control (ERC).
F1-E2 U/L ERC Errors - Electronic Range Control (ERC).
F1-E3 Fuel Type Fail

Kill power 30 seconds-Cancel-Start/Enter-5 seconds-Should see “E” for electric-
“9” for gas-If code changes again-replace Electronic Range Control (ERC).

KENMORE - 790 Series Electronic Oven Control (Frigidaire)
F1 = Shorted Touch Pad = Electronic Range Control (EOC) Internal checksum error.
Runaway Temp = Replace Electronic Oven Control (EOC).

Kill power 30 seconds - if error returns - replace Electronic Oven Control (EOC).
