My mini netbook has virus and it is not letting me to open anything. i have macafee on it, but still unable to do perform anything. How i can remove the virus from netbook? OR how can i restore it to...

Be sure your firewall is activated. You can chose to use the windows firewall pre-installed on your Netbook or you can activate the firewall in you anti-virus package.
Run a cleaning software designed for detecting spyware on a regular basis to maintain Netbook processing speed and to remove items picked up by your Netbook while surfing the web. CCleaner is a solid free version of spyware cleaner.
If you suspect malware on your computer because it is running slowly, has strange pop ups or the anti-virus software detects it, then download software designed to find spyware and eliminate spyware. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, A-squared Free and SuperAntiSpywate Free are free versions of adware removal tool to consider. These tools get rid of spyware when used individually or in tandem. Continue to run the software until all spyware, viruses and malware are removed.

How To Use the Restore Factory Settings CD

2. Put the Restore Factory Settings CD into the CD drive. This CD was packaged with your computer.
3. Confirm you want to restore the factory settings. The computer will begin restoring all settings. Don't disturb your computer, as this process can take several hours. .
4. Reboot the computer to complete the process.

Have a virus on my toshiba laptop, can i resolve this by restoring the factory settings?

Hi Andrewfairwa.

Yes, you may remove all the security threats in the Computer by restoring it to the Factory settings.

But, restoring the Computer to the Factory settings will also delete the Data in the Hard Drive.

Hence, you may try performing a Complete System Scan to check for any Virus or security threats.

You may perform the Complete System Scan by using the Anti-virus Application installed in the Computer.

If you have not installed any Anti-virus Application installed in the Computer, you may perform a online System Scan.

Let me provide the detailed steps to perform the online System Scan.

You may perform the free Online Scan by visiting the below link:

http://www.bitdefender.com/scanner/online/free.html

Please open the above link and click on "Start Scanner".

This will start the free Online System Scan.

Once the Scan is complete, check if the Virus or any security threats are removed from the Computer.

If there are still any threats, then you may backup all the important Data and restore the Computer to the Factory settings.

Hope this helps.

Please feel free to ask further questions.

I have a malicious virus...i tried Windows update virus removal..still have the block from accessing internet, asking to buy removal tool...tried restoring to factory settings upon restart..F10 doesnt...

In regards to removing the virus when you did the factory restor did you actually to the restore of the restore partition on the hard drive or from restore disks. If it was from the restort partition it is possible that the virus spread to that drive.

If you have access to another computer then I would connect the drive to other computer and try to scan the drive.

The reason for this if Windows thinks the virus is a system file the removal program can not remove it if Windows is running. So connecting it to another computer allows you to fully clean the hard drive. However with alot of viruses at this level will cause you to have to do a clean reinstall of Windows any ways. So you may have to look using your restore disks any ways to get a clean reinstall of Windows.

Let me know if you have any more problems or questions

How can i restore factory settings on my acer laptop if not if i instal an anti virus will it get rid of the virus that are already there or just protect against them in the future!

If your machine came with a restore cd or dvd, you can use that to restore your machine back to factory defaults. However, any information you have stored on the hard drive will be destroyed in the process.

Some antivirus software installations will scan for and remove existing viruses, but some will not. If you think you have a virus and you need to keep the information on your machine from deletion, I suggest having someone knowledgeable in the removal of viruses do it for you.

Anti-Virus software is primarily meant to PREVENT a virus infection from occurring. I have however had clients who installed the software, and then disabled it while they "worked" on downloading some suspicious files because they were annoyed by the pop-ups that kept appearing telling them that the file they were downloading was infected....

Bottom line, the software will HELP protect if used properly, but will do NO good if disabled. If you can't get the virus removed on your own, contact me and I will give you instructions on how to send me the computer for disinfecting.

If you have a Factory Restore CD from Acer, you can boot the laptop with that in the drive, and it will start you on the process of restoring it to the factory configuration.
