There still may be hope, depending on whether your camera conducted a low-level format or not. Please see this post for several free recovery software that you can download. You'll need to use a card reader with these programs though: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/recovering-those-accidentally-lost.html

Hi,

Welcome to FixYa.

To format the SD card, select [Format] from the [Setup] menu

Please help, i have lost a lot of pictures from my camera and i have a horrible feeling i pressed the format button without realising what id done. Are all my pictures lost?

Unfortunately, if you formatted the card, yes they are gone. The memory is flash memory, and reformatting erases all information on the card. You might try taking the card out and downloading to your your computer, but it sounds like they won't be there. Always be careful, once you format a card there is no turning back.

I accidentally deleted my pictures by pressing format. how do i restore the pictures to my camera?

sorry your pictures are lost.

by pressing format and yes, you have instructed the camera to clear all data from its internal memory and to set the memory ready to accept new data.
the old data is not stored in any trashcan like on a pc.

Write Protect Error Message

Sounds like you will need to format the memory card. This will permanently erase all the data from the card and then you will be able to use it again. To format the card: Press the Menu button - right arrow to Setup- right arrow to format option. You will see format yes or no. Choose Yes and press ok. This will clear the write protect message and the card can be used again.

However if you need to save these images first: As long as the xD card was not formatted it is possible to recover the images that were accidently erased, lost or corrupted. You can go to the following website link and download an image recovery software program that is free of charge.
http://www.z-a-recovery.com/
You want to download a program called Zero Assumption Recovery. It is a very simple program to use and many people have had much success in recovering lost images.

Data recovery is a booming industry, and many appropriate services and software can be found by searching regional phone and business directories or the Internet for terms such as "image recovery" or "data recovery".
