Ice maker not working, should the infrared sensor stay solid or blink when the door is closed?

I have a whirlpool conquest side by side ref. my icemaker intermittently stops working, I have had the control modual replaced with the last year. I had the repair man come out again in about six months because it was no longer working. It turns out my supply line was frozen. So now when this happens I get the blow dryer out and defrost it. Now it is not working and I have checked the supply line. I was wondering if it may be the infrared sensor. When the freezer is closed should the red light stay solid or blink? How can I tell if that is the problem?

SOURCE: Ice Maker on/off switch has blinking red light, will not produce ice. Manual no help

When you open the freezer door the light should be blinking. When you hold the flipper door shut (on the left hand side) without blocking the beam, the light should stay on solid. If all of this happens then the optics are o.k. If optics are ok then you most likely have a broken motor module on the icemaker and should replace the icemaker thermostat along with it. A bad icemaker thermostat will lead to the module breaking. If you not sure how to replace these parts then I would just replace the whole icemaker. That would be easiest and usually not much more expensive.

There are instructions available to repair this problem at www.AnyoneCanFixIt.com. They also sell the part needed to make the repair. Common problem on these refrigerators that were made in about 2005 or later and have the ice bin bucket on the door.

You have a better chance of finding out that the problem is a broken moduele. The fingers that grab the ice and rotate it out they should be resting at the 2 oclock posotion. If stuck in any other posotion its broken. It's expensive but not hard to do. If you had a bad soloniod you would either have a frozen tube or a block of ice at the top

Your unit has infered sensors on the frezzer left and right walls. There is a diagnostic test sheet brown in color in your kick plate. All you have to do is open frezzer door look on the right sensor it should blink twice followed by a 1-2 sec delay,if that is good press in flapper door on right sensor do not block path of infered beam you will not see a beam its invisable.Once you hold in flapper on right sensor the led should be solid. If solid optics are good if not solid led replace optic sensors

My whirlpool conquest side by side frig purchased in 2008 has a red blinking light in the freezer the ice maker is not working at all.

The blinking light goes to the ice maker on/off sensor. This is actually a real easy fix. The sensor is bad and needs to be replaced. If you look at the blinking light you'll notice there are two screws holding that section in. Directly across from that is another white piece held in by one or two screws. Whenever you close the door the beam is complete and the ice maker will turn on. To order the parts, find your model number, which is normally located in the refrigerator side, and then call any parts distributor ( i use appliance parts depot), and tell them you need the ice maker sensor kit. Thecost shouldn't be more than $50 I think. Hopefully this helps and let me know if you have any other questions.

Ice maker sotp making ice / red light blinking

J, As you open the freezer door the LED on the right should flash 2X with a pause repeatedly. When you hold the left side emmiter down the light should stay on steady. If you have this, you know the optics are good unless the ejector blades are not home. First thing to check is where the ejector blades on the ice maker are parked. They should be resting in the 2:00 position. If they are not, you could have a broken module. If they are in the 2:00 positon the next thing to check would be the fill tube. You want to make sure it is not frozen over. You can disconnect it from the back and see if you can blow through the line or visually inspect it. If all of the above mentioned check out, jump start the ice-maker. Remove the quarter inch screw holding the harness cover on the right side. Remove the harness cover. Pull the ice-maker straight out but be carefull not to smash the emmitter flap on the left side. Leave the harness connected. Get a jumper wire with the ends stripped apout a 1/4 inch. Unplug the refer and place the jumper in test holes T&H. Leave the jumper in and place the ice maker on the shelf where you can close the door. Close the door and plug the refer back in. Wait 30 seconds and open the door. The ice maker should be cycleing. Pull the jumper and place the module cover back on. Put the ice maker back in the rails. It should fill at approx the 12:00 position. Let me know how you make out. Catriver.

Ice maker not working

Pour about 2/3 cup of water into the ice maker . Also , check the black fill hose that fill the ice maker , to make sure it is not frozen . If the ice maker dumps the cubes , then replace the water inlet valve . If the ice maker holds the ice , and does not dump , replace the ice maker . When you open the freezer door , the laser light , should blink twice , then pause ,repeatedly . If you close the flap on the left side , the laser should go off . These are indication that the optics are good . If you open the door , and no laser light , then that means that the ice maker is in the harvest (dump) mode . If it stays this way , ice maker is bad .

Icemaker not working, infared sensor is blinking

We had the same problem. There are 2 sensors on either side of the door, the one that is blinking and the receivor on the other side of the ice bucket. We ordered a new sensor from www.appliancepartspros.com -part #4389102. It came in at 2 days and was really easy to fix. Of course, there is a black rubber tube that adds water into the ice maker from the top of the fridge that froze over. Once we defrosted that, our icemaker worked again.
