The button feels right when pressed but there is no audible beep and it will not change screens. All other buttons work fine and it charges properly.

the garmin gps often use a soft rubber in their contruction
either wait til the unit is out of the heat or use a bit more pressure to push the button doen firmly
the map60 range has the same issue with the power on/off buttons
there is no replacement parts as its built into the case

For Pc users:
Go to Garmin website Updates & Downloads, Training Centre for Windows software version 3.4.1, click on download.
I previously deleted all saved couses on Training Centre, but don't know if this is relevant.
SOURCE: Forerunner 305 won't charge
Had the same problem. Turned out I only *thought* it was the cradle and/or cable being finicky. Actually, the problem was one of the four contact points on the back of the 305 had oxidized and if all 4 don't make good contact with the cradle, it won't charge. Apparently, manipulating the cable only coincidentally helped, if/when it did help, perhaps by subtly shifting the contact point so that a less oxidized part made contact.
Anyway, rubbing the contact points with a pencil eraser cleans them enough to get a good charge. I've had to break out the eraser every 2-4 weeks.

Will it start up whilst in the cradle, charging?
Mine did, but will not charge up off the cradle. Turned out to be a duff battery/connections due to water getting into the device!

I have had the same problem. To fix it, I simultaneously hold down the "mode" and "reset" buttons for about 10 seconds. After releasing the buttons I power it up as normal. This has worked both times it has happened, and I got this fix from the Garmin website. My mileage totals are still in the history.
