I have a 46" widescreen,

The pop may have been caused by a catastrophically failed power semiconductor or an electrolytic capacitor.
The main supply is often on a separate board (these are often outsourced) which will be smaller in size but have larger components on it. Removing the back panel should let you recognize it fairly easily. Examine this board carefully with a good light and look for components that appear damaged; this could be a three-lead transistor, a module (both often in black epoxy) or a capacitor any of which will be cylindrical and could be any size ranging upward to 2" in height and ~ 1 1/2" diameter. If the latter has failed, it may have a burst aluminum top or have spit chemicals onto the board.
Since you have neither sound nor video, I don't think the back light inverter for the display will be a fault. This will be on an even smaller board and traceable to the fluorescent tube. If you do not find a problem you can identify on the main power supply, check this smaller board for the same kind of visible failure since a failure on the inverter could cause a fuse in the main supply to fail which would disable the entire set.
Good luck-

You will have a bad HVT and Horz output. repair is about 85.00-150.00 depeding on who repairs it. However, after 25 years of repairing TV, if you ask me, save your money, buy another TV, this unit has tons of costly repair problems, that is not easy to fix.

Sony Bravia XBR-2 32-inch LCD with popping noise problem

Has anyone heard of something like this where the cable box/service is causing popping sounds? yes & it is common problem. And is this something I should be concerned about causing damage to the TV's speakers? not at all. The Sony tech-support representative (over the phone) diagnosed it further to a problem not with the TV but with the cable box/service because there were no popping sounds when I played a DVD on my Playstation 2 that is attached to the TV. they are right that your problem is not due to tv. it is due to cable box/service? yes but not defective it reqires to change the way you have connected tv to cable.please call tech to get it connected in such a way so that you do not get popping sound when you you put off cable box.

TV picture doesn't work

That sounds to me like a flyback transformer went bad. I just had this issue because the ceramic coating on my flyback cracked and caused it to arc off. I got a new one delivered for 31.90 and soldered it in and viola! Perfect 32" tv once again.
