Re: no center main volume

Your center and main output will be dependent on type of signal you have. try playing DVD movies with 5.1 audio. if you dont have vocal in center when someone is talking then its not normal. what is the model of your unit? is it DSP a1000? if all your setting are correct and you have been using it before with the same settings working normal then something could be wrong with the IC LC multiple electronic switch. failure in the mechanical sitch is also posbility. these are common symptoms yamaha DSP with mechanical contact switches.

Re: no center main volume

Make shure your initial setup on the amp is for center as an active speaker, then to check volume on center at zero. Possible to check speaker and wires for open or short.BIGRED

My yamaha DSP AX1 amp does not work when audio is connected via optical or coaxial any suggestions how to correct this. no sound comes from any speaker except the subwoofer.

Are all the speakers turned off (set to None) in the speaker menu.(except the sub)?

2 channel direct analog stereo may still work, but any surround modes will use the speaker settings and the full DSP digital section.

Check also the input mode isn't incorrect - although if the sub is wired correctly and gives sound this can't be whats wrong.

I have 1 center channel pre-out on back of my kenwood receiver. how do i hook it to the inputs on onkyo m-282 amp and then to center channel speaker?

Unfortunately can't connect it that way. The pre out is only meant to go directly into an amplifier that has all of the same inputs (front/rear, center and surround), not a standard receiver. (Pre amp to amp only, not pre amp to receiver) If your Onkyo doesn't have all the same inputs as your Kenwood preamp has outputs you will just use your standard left/right outputs from the Kenwood to your Onkyo input (CD, Tape, Phono,DVD etc) then use the outputs (front/rear, center and surround) from your Onkyo receiver and connect directly to your speakers..

Yamaha RX-797 iPod Integration

I have a question first... are the 901's amplified by a separate amp as they should be in a multi-channel (non-stereo) setup?

Better yet read the following then decide if you have iy set up right to begin with. If so, I'd just treat the Ipod or Mac as auxilliary inputs on the receiver. :

I wrote most of this for a different receiver, but if you account for minor differences to your receiver this will work just fine.

There's good news and bad news. The bad news you need a separate amp because a multichannel receiver with Bose 901's attached as recommended for a standard stereo receiver will only sound right in STEREO on stereo analog material. The other speakers around the room are not designed to receive its Active Equalization and if you engage your Tape Monitor you will NOT BE ABLE TO HEAR DIGITAL sources at all. Tape Monitor is for analog stereo material only and on modern AV receivers it disables any digital inputs so you really can't use the Tape Monitor circuit or attached devices for modern digital sources. However, you can still employ the various DSP options to spread 2-channel analog source material around the room. I do.

The good news. I have a setup similar to what you want to do and it works great!

A separate stereo amp for the 901's was my solution. I run a Carver AV-406 (5-channel amp) for my 901's in Front, 2 Subwoofers and the Rear Surround channel, with the Active EQ between the receiver Front L&R Outputs and the 901's amp channels. My receiver controls everything and just drives the Center and Surround speakers.

You could get by with just a stereo amp for the 901's. A Carver M-200 is a good efficient amplifier that would have you cooking just fine (2x100W). Run it with the Active EQ between the receiver Front L&R Pre-Outputs ** and the 901's amp channels.

** Front Pre Out (or one of your analog Tape Outs) >>> Bose EQ Amplifer IN, then
Bose EQ Amplier OUT >>> new amplifier IN.

Attach the 901's to the new amp, set its volume to Max and run through your receiver's speaker level setup.

Write off the Tape Out as an input if you use it to extract the Front L&R channels. DO NOT monitor it or you'll chop the 901's out of the signal path AND kill any digital source audio in the receiver.

Sony STR-DE525 Left Rear channel not working

Most likely the amp for that channel is defective. If memory serves me correctly, there is a small amp chip mounted on the heatsink that is for both the left and right rear. I would change that first. It should have about 5-7 pins.

Carver Sound Problems

your going to need this place to download the remedy's for your system

if it is not working then there is another serious problem , and it could be the amp IC or the volume IC but tests will need to be done to determine what is causing the failure , but it does sound like amp IC as a suspect since the rear were not even working , did the volume seem different when turning it up or down before the center quit or after the center quit?

Can i use small satelite speakers with my big front speakers?

Hi, I asume your setting up a home theater with five speakers a center left and right and rear surrounds don't know if you have a subwoofer. The large speakers in the front will work fine if you set the amp to large front speakers the bass will be sent to these. If you have a subwoofer set, the amp to small front speakers and the bass will be directed to it. Also try to get a center channel speaker that sounds somewhat like your large speakers.

Surround Sound

You must find on your setup menu the word `Surround', it may be `5.1 Surround'. Not `Stereo'(S ?).
