Do you know what changes to your system led to this error? Have you made changes to your hardware or software?
Do you have the recovery console installed on your system? It would appear as an option in a flashed screen that also lists your XP operating system during boot up. If you have it installed, we can use it to run the chkdsk utility to scan your system drive.
If not, you will need the setup disks for xp for your system?

Choose last known good configuration, and see if it will start up ok.
What causes the initial restart? Is it simply restarting itself at boot up?
What is your OS, XP or Vista?

There are lots of free HDD test software online.
Also, if you go to your BIOS, there may be an HDD test option.

Basically you put CD with the software in to CD drive and boot from that CD and use SCAN HDD option.
You don't have to use Windows for that.
Commonly used software: PC Doctor, PC Check, SpinRite, ....etc.

I suspect your HDD needs replacement, but it needs to be confirmed by test results.

Here are a few options;
If you decide to do a repair installation, make sure you have backups of your data incase something goes wrong..

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/doug92.mspx

Try start, run, then type MSCONFIG go to start tab and UNcheck everything, then go to services and at the lower left of the window it says hide microsoft services and check the box then disable all then restart and see if that helps.

It will boot up to the windows screen and freezes.

If your computer was able to boot up but unable to load the Windows, the most common cause would be the recently intstalled software or Windows update.

To remove this, follow these steps. Skip Step 1 if it is not relevant.

Step 1: Removing recently added hardware
Use the steps in this section to disconnect any recently added hardware and test for the error.

NOTE: If a new internal device (sound card, hard drive, or other) was added to the computer before the error message started to occur, you have to remove it before continuing.

  1. Turn off the PC and unplug the power cord.
  2. Disconnect the mouse, and any other peripherals attached (Printer, scanner, webcam, zip drive, phone cord, network cable and other devices). Leave only the keyboard and monitor cable attached.
  3. Press and hold the power button on the front of the PC. Release after 10 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord back in.
  5. Turn on the computer.
  6. The computer displays the We apologize for the inconvenience... message. Allow the timer to count down from 30 to 0.
  7. If the computer successfully starts to the Windows desktop and does not restart to the error message, connect one device and wait until Windows recognizes it.
  8. To find if a device is causing the error, continue connecting the devices, one at a time, restarting the computer each time, until the device that is causing the error is found.
NOTE: If this does not solve the issue try to do a system restore BUT it will delete all your files and programs you install by yourself after the system. You will be able to use the pc as a new pc.

Sony vaio not loading windows

reinstall the OS ! Just overrite it over the previouse xp so u won;t lose data ...

..most probably u are missing some files ... .. or u have virusez issues. Ofecourse there is the posibility of hardware mallfunction, but considering microsofts reputation ... probably thats not the issue ...
