My refrige leaks water on the floor from the freezer side on the left. I turned the water off and disconnected the water line. Still once or twice a week the refrige leaks water on the floor.

Sounds like ice build up on the freezer coils. Disconecting the water line doesn't stop regrigerant from flowing through the coils since they are still working. Easiest way would be a hair dryer to melt the built up frozen consensation. After you should see no water on the floor and you can turn the water back on (i assume the water is for your ice water and ice cube tray).

The drain is clogged. Remove the bottom bin out of the freezer. Once done you should see a trough at the back. This trough will be filled with ice, remvoe the ice. Then you have to clear the drain. The best way I know of to do this is to force hot water down the drain with a turkey baser untill water flows freely. Then mix baken soda with water and pour it down the drain. http://www.appliance-repair-it.com/refrigerator-leaking.html

How do i take freezer door off a side by side frig that has water/ice options

usally a quick disconnect block for wireing harness on top freezer hing. There will be a water supply tube going up through bottom freezer hinge with a disconnect union fitting close by usally under refrig behind toe grill. once these are disconnected you can then take top hinge off of main part of refrig. by taking screws off on top of upper freezer hinge. you then should be able to lift door off by lifting up on door and water line should slide up and through the bottom hinge.

If you have an ice maker, check for a leak in the water line. If no ice maker, there could be a leak in the pan for the defrost water, or the drain hose is out of position. Also, check to see if the water is actually leaking out from the freezer door. That would indicate a clogged drain. The bottom inside the freezer may have water, or ice on it. If so, suspect the clogged drain.

Your defrost drain outlet is frozen over.
Turn off the fridge.
Remove the bottom drawers.
Look in the back section just below the back freezer panel and you will see an ice dam.
This must be defrosted. Use a hair dryer.
Once all the ice is gone pour water into the drain to make sure it is clear.
Then pour a 1/4 cup of bleach in the drain.
Turn the fridge back on and you will be OK until it happens to stop up again.

You have a frozen defrost drain. whenever the unit goes into defrost, usually once a day the water instead of running down the drain is running out on the interior and then onto your floor.Fairly easy fix if your game?
  • unplug your refrig
  • remove all food from interior of freezer
  • remove shelving
  • remove 2 screws holding the rear cover in place these are usually painted white to blend witht he cover. btw this is the lower cover so you do not have to remove icemaker or dispenser bucket.
  • once cover is removed defrost all of the ice that you see with a hair dryer
  • once the ice is gone you will see a drain hole in the center beneath the cooling coil ou need to flush hot water thru this hole to clear any ice and sludge that may be in the line. ( I sometimes have to use a syringe or turkey baster filled with hot water to forcefully clear this line)
  • reassemble in reverse order
If you have any further questions or comments leave them here and I'll get back to you. Thanks Peyton

Water leaking from bottom of unit

For original poster: Check all milky white colored (polyethelne) plastic water lines. These lines tend to get brittle and can crack over a period of time. They extend from the water valve to the ice maker, and from the water valve to the inside of the refrig to a "radiator" so the water can chill, before it runs back out the refrig, past the left side of the refrig behind the bottom grill, through a coupler, and up through the bottom hinge of the freezer door. I'd also advise putting in a separate shut off for the water supply to the refrig so you can have water to the rest of your house when you have a problem with the refrig.

For next user with similar problem: you can check the above, but it may be that the defrost drain is plugged. (on a S x S unit, it is located at the bottom of the freezer compartment, behind the back wall.) If you have a layer of ice on the floor of the freezer, that's a dead give away of a blocked defrost drain tube, Use a turkey baster with hot (not boiling) water to flush it out.
